GVEP (Global Village Energy Partnership) International works to increase the effectiveness of energy product/service providers by supporting micro, small and medium enterprises to strengthen, expand and diversify their businesses, and improve their ability to raise capital and scale up. To do this, GVEP provides high-quality business, financial and technical mentoring and advice. Over four million people have benefited from our programmes.
GVEP has recently expanded its portfolio of activities in both East and West Africa, and is looking to recruit a number of Project Managers to support this growth.
Overall Purpose
Reporting to the Programme Director, the Project Managers will work closely with the country teams to ensure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule and on budget. We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in renewable energy projects, renewable energy/SME financing & project management. The Project Manager oversees the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of a specific project for which he/she is responsible
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop the implementation and M&E plan for the projectLead project implementation as per the project documentLead project monitoring and evaluation and generate scheduled reports for the project for senior management and donorsWork with local partners and entrepreneurs in the implementation of the projectEnsure financial management and compliance of the project implementationIn consultation with the Senior Management ensure adequate staffing for the projectProvide support to staff implementation of the projectQualifications and experience
Note: Positions are available for both senior and mid-level positions; for the latter, some of the requirements below will be relaxed slightly.
· Experience of senior project management, in a developing country context, preferably in East and West Africa with demonstrated capacity to manage large-scale projects effectively.
· At least 5 years experience of implementing donor-funded and/or technical projects
· Bachelor-level degree (preferably in engineering, environmental science, or business/economics/finance);
· Strong financial management skills, with proven experience managing large budgets, including accurate and timely reporting to donors
· Proven experience managing complex projects with a track record in delivery
· Comfort with the entrepreneurial culture of a fast growing organization in an ever-changing industry
· Experience of working with small businesses, and/or energy SMEs, and/or an understanding of renewable energy technologies and business models is required for some posts, advantageous for others.
High level of inter-personal and presentation skills and an ability to communicate clearly and collaborate at a senior level with colleagues, SMEs, public agencies and other stakeholders;A can-do and collaborative mind set – comfort with the ambiguities and demands of a rapidly evolving environment.Excellent written and spoken English;excellent French and English are required for those interested in the West Africa region.Experience managing multiple projects and using tools such as MS Project for planning;The positions will require travel within East and West Africa.To apply please send your CV plus a cover letter indicating your current and expected salary outlining how your knowledge, skills and experience match the job specification to recruitment@gvepinternational.org to reach us by latest 21st November, 2014
