Partnership Giving Fundraising at World Animal Protection includes securing funding from high net worth individuals, trusts/foundations, corporates, government and/or other agencies.

 

The Team at the Africa Regional Office is seeking a Fundraising and Partnership Relations Specialist as a key step in building the organization’s partnership giving fundraising capacity.

Main Purpose of Role

The Fundraising and Partnership Relations Specialist will enable access to partnership funding through Partnership Giving funders (PGF) which is critical to World Animal Protection’s global strategic objective of achieving positive change for animals. 

The role will provide leadership, strategic oversight, and management for World Animal Protection’s partnership fundraising and related efforts in Africa.

The incumbent will be reporting to the Regional Director for Africa.

S/he will be responsible for building World Animal Protection’s influence and credibility in Africa through identifying and cultivating relationships with potential donors, managing grants and funder communications, reporting, financial management and coordinating partnership projects, engagements, and fundraising events. 

S/he will be in charge of securing sizeable and significant funding from foundations, multi-laterals, bilateral, RECs, and private donors, including corporations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Proactively develop compelling propositions and funding proposals for PG donors using existing Programme/Campaign strategies, annual plans and fundraising assets.


• Convince PG donors to support our work; work with Communications to help contribute to mainstreaming animal welfare and ensure continuity of messaging; and work with Programmes to lobby government and other stakeholders to incorporate animals in their priorities, including funding priorities.


• Help to ensure buy-in across the organization but specifically within the Africa Regional Office to participate in the Partnership Giving Fundraising Growth Plan by communicating internally about the Africa Regional Office’s work to secure this funding stream, the income secured, benefits of having robust relationships with these funders, and the changes required across the organization to achieve the plan.


• Increase understanding and engagement of Partnership Giving amongst internal staff


• Ensure the planning, delivery and reporting requirements and expectations of Partnership Giving funders are met.


• Identify potential partner organizations or government entities for co-funding; prioritize donor prospects and proposals in close coordination with regional staff and leadership, and the international fundraising team.


• Contributing to Programme/Campaign planning by highlighting the fundraising opportunities and potential risks, and suggesting ways to enhance and strengthen Programmes/Campaigns from a fundraising perspective


• Incorporate grants management, including financial and legal considerations, into PG project management training for roll out to those who will have responsibility for managing restricted funds, particularly Programmes/ Campaigns and Finance.


• Help identify and invest in improvements needed in our internal financial systems to manage restricted funds.


• Work with Finance and Programmes to effectively meet the M&E requirements of major funders.


• Work with Communications to message our work appropriately to the Partnership Giving funder audience.


• Work closely with the existing Fundraising Directors to identify, cultivate and ultimately solicit institutional funders that have a presence both in specific countries in Africa and in other countries, such as the UK and the United States (e.g., DFID, USAID, etc.).


• Liaise with International Fundraising leadership and the other Fundraising Directors with Partnership Giving expertise on the delivery of agreed upon objectives.


• Share PG fundraising success in Africa across the organisation to build further momentum and commitment to PG fundraising.


• Work with Global teams to coordinate funding relations, requests, and reporting with international donors.

Person Specification

Key Qualifications and Experience

• Advanced University degree in Business Administration or related field preferably with a strong finance bias from a recognised Institution of Higher learning;


• Proven experience in:

1. Working in Africa


2. Fundraising in a large organization at international level and in Africa


3. Securing significant (5-figure gifts/grants and above) from high net worth individuals, corporates, trusts/foundations and/or governments or other agencies

• Excellent networking skills


• Excellent donor prospect identification and research skills


• Proven experience in writing funding proposals and successfully bidding for funding in a competitive environment


• Good Public Relations and communication skills


• Excellent Marketing skills

Skills / Competencies

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with global teams


• Ability to explain complex issues to both funders and internal stakeholders and present the organisation and its work in a compelling, concise manner


• Ability to manage and prioritise own workload effectively, work to multiple deadlines & effectively manage internal stakeholder contributions


• Ability to develop productive relationships with external stakeholders


• Excellent project management skills


• Ability to foster mutual co-operation and good working relationships across internal departments and teams


• Ability to work internationally and in a multi-cultural environment


• Flexibility to travel


• English is the working language at World Animal Protection, although knowledge of another language would be beneficial
