About Innovations for Poverty Action: is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems.
In close partnership with decision makers — the policymakers, practitioners, investors, and donors working with the poor around the world — IPA designs and evaluates potential solutions to poverty problems using randomized evaluations, the most rigorous evaluation method available.
We also mobilize and support these decision makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale
About the Job: The Associate Field Manager (AFM) will collect data in the field for the EASQ Validation Study. The AFM will be based in Western Kenya and will be required to travel within the region.
He/She will be working independently with the supervision from the Senior Field Manager and Principal Investigators. The AFM will spend approximately 100% of his/her time in the field.
About the Project: The EASQ Kenya Validation Study will compare the Extended Ages and Stages Questionnaire to a direct measure of child development such as the Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development.
Both tests will be administered to caregiver/child pairs enrolled in the WASH-Benefits Study to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the EASQ.
Children will also be measured (length or height) to enable comparisons between the child development assessments and stunting.
This project will provide useful evidence to other studies considering using the EASQ as a measure of child development in rural Kenya.
Responsibilities:
General
Completion of scheduled activities each day in a timely manner.
Interact with community members with the highest level of respect and understanding.
On non-field days, conscientious performance of office work.
Maintaining high standard of professional integrity in all activities.
Successfully complete all tasks assigned by the EASQ Validation Study team.
Knowledge of assigned tasks and delivery according to SOP.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Team player – interacts well with colleagues and offers support in the field and in the office.
Responsible- takes up responsibilities, shows initiative in solving issues and reports challenges to supervisor.
Project and Data Collection Duties
Identifying and confirming eligible study respondents
Get informed consent from study participants
Collecting data from respondents with strict adherence to the SOP
Ensure proper storage and handling of field equipment such as Bayley kits, measuring board, etc.
Communicating with local administration (village elders), filling data forms and uploading data onto the server
Any other duties assigned by the Senior Field Manager
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in Child Development, Psychology, or other relevant fields;
Previous experience with Bayley, ASQ, or other child development tests desirable
Previous experience with anthropometry measurements an added advantage
Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili. Luhya speaking is an added advantage.
Well-organized, detail- oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
