Regional Business Development Manager Job in Kenya




Duma Works is recruiting a Regional Business Development Manager for one of our clients; one of the region’s largest retailer and wholesaler of consumer electronics and entertainment products.
 



Job Purpose: To analyze business development options in the 6 countries as prescribed. 



The analysis should include, but not limited to all business aspects such as distribution channels, key players, brands, key products (with specifications), legal requirements and recommended approach for business in each country  within time lines as specified, UPON joining.  



To develop and establish business in all desired locations as directed.

 


Roles and Responsibilities

Analysis



  • Carry out a thorough due diligence, research and analysis on each country on all aspects including:

  • The ease of doing business in each country including political and legal barriers

  • The real demand of the company products and services in the short- term and long term

  • Accepted marketing strategies of each country, including current market trends and preferred retail

  • The direct and indirect competitor activity that would affect the business.

  • The financial viability and legal implications of entering into any of the new markets.

  • The total investment required to take the business to completion stage in each country

  • The technological challenges that may affect the operations of the company.

  • The social environment of the market like cultural trends, demographics, population analytics etc.

  • The infrastructure including ease of effective supply chain and logistics

  • The optimal manner of entry into a country be it direct set up, partnerships, agencies, distributorship, joint venture or merger and acquisition.

  • Any other research that is necessary.


Reports


  • Provide weekly and monthly accurate and specific progress reports.

  • Within the given timelines, submit detailed reports and recommendation with regards to the countries as prescribed.


Business Development 


  • Based on clear directions from the Managing Director (in consultation with the Board of Directors, the following will be undertaken:

  • Excellent planning, developing and implementing, within agreed timelines, on all aspects in setting up the brand in each country.

  • Propose potential and suitable business partners or locations or companies;

  • Develop negotiating strategies and contracts when and where necessary.


Handover


  • Support all business development to completion.

  • Document and submit detailed handover notes to specified personnel.

  • Monitor and ensure responsiveness and compliance to agreed proposals.

  • Complete each handover within one month.


The Regional Business Development Manager shall also:


  • Protect brand’s values, reputation and undertake to keep all information confidential.

  • Any other duties as may arise from time to time.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience in international development, or business development (or a combination thereof) required.

  • At least three to four years of prior experience living and working in Africa required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing international development.

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize and to handle the high stress environment of business development.

  • Excellent research, data analysis and presentation skills.

  • Ability to frequently travel internationally and domestically as and when required.


Location: Nairobi, but lots of travel to the 6 countries they are seeking to expand into i.e. Eastern and Southern Africa; Uganda, Burundi, DRC, Malawi, Ethiopia and Mozambique.
