BIMAS Kenya Limited a renowned microfinance organisation seeks to fill the position of a Communications Officer.
Reports to: Executive Director
Duty station: Head Office (In Embu) with frequent travel to the field offices
Overall Responsibility: The holder of this position will be responsible for developing various communication and marketing strategies to facilitate both internal and external communications.
They will work closely with the marketing and ICT teams.
Position Objectives
- To initiate, maintain and deliver innovative marketing and communications strategies
- Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies including web, social media, print and face to face, marketing and branding to further organizations strategic objectives.
- Develop and provide communication publication and PR services
- Develop and deliver together with external communications agencies the media strategy
- Develop relationships with media stakeholders to ensure that there is maximum positive exposure of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and drive an innovative marketing and communications plan
- Identify future needs, trends and resources for effective marketing and communications strategies
- Undertake strategic communications audit and develop workable communication strategies
- Issue press releases, react to media stories and proactive media reporting through the available channels
- Produce corporate communications documentation, strategic documents and annual reports
- Work to support the activities of the Board and management including media releases and releases, speech writing, development of presentation slides and or other communication tools.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure that all the publications are accurate and up to date.
- Source and where appropriate provide media and communications training to staff.
- Create clear brand messages and draft high quality communications ensuring appropriate content, tone, brevity and consistency.
- Research, strategize and proactively find networking and engagement programmes to enhance the company’s relationship with stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on the evaluation of marketing and communications initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing / communications, or Business administration / Journalism with major in marketing or communications or a related field is required
- Knowledge and understanding media including social media
- Good knowledge of and experience in developing, negotiating and managing a complex range of contracts and agreements with external parties.
- At least 2-3 years’ experience in PR and communications and or digital marketing and communications is essential
- Experience in the management, promotion and delivery of corporate communication strategic and operational activities.
- Experience in developing effective marketing tools, managing websites, online content, e-marketing and social media.

- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with an ability to develop innovative and creative solutions
- Very good written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in computer packages
