KOMAZA is a non-profit social enterprise working to permanently and sustainably end rural poverty by developing economic opportunities for smallholder farmers living in Africa’s infertile and drought-prone regions.
We are looking for a highly skilled filmmaking professional with significant experience in production and editing to create documentary videos and photo content of our work.

THE ROLE
With a generous donation from a private philanthropic foundation, KOMAZA is seeking a talented and experienced documentary filmmaker to spend one year in Kenya creating compelling video and photo content that captures all aspects of our operations and highlights relevant social and environmental issues. Duties will be widespread and include contributing to story development, field-based filming, editing, media management and music editing. Specifically, you will:
• Produce and edit several videos for use on our organization’s website as well as in live presentations
• Shoot professional quality photographs of all aspects of our operations for use in external communications and promotional materials
• Support the External Relations team in integrating final photo and video content into our overall communications strategy, media and materials (KOMAZA website, Vimeo, Twitter, Facebook, video blogging, etc.)
• Contribute to the design process of the website and various communications materials, including e-newsletters, photo booklets, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Education: a top-performing academic background; minimum B.A./B.F.A. in film, communications, design, video production or related discipline.
• Relevant experience: significant video production/editing experience, ideally serving as a DP, camera operator or editor; expert in using Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premier. Work samples or digital portfolio required.
• Creativity and enthusiasm: vision and passion for creating compelling video and photo content that highlights major social and environmental issues.
• Analytical thinking -at a high and granular level: excellent problem-solving skills and business judgment; ability to think “big picture“ and dig into details
• Strong organizational skills: ability to balance multiple projects, work across all aspects of operations, and take ownership of projects to achieve targets in a highly independent capacity
• Strong communication skills and commitment to: being personable yet persistent; building consensus and influencing decision-making; adapting to local cultural norms and communication styles, given close collaboration with local staff. At times, you will be responsible for conducting interviews with KOMAZA’s field staff and farmers, with the help of a translator if necessary.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Associates
In their first year, Associates receive a monthly stipend AND the following benefits:
• Food and housing
• Travel stipend covering arrival and departure flights and visa costs (or equivalent compensation for East Africans)
• Comprehensive international health insurance (or equivalent compensation for East Africans) including immunizations
The starting package provides for a comfortable standard of living in Kilifi, Kenya. For Associates who work for more than one year, compensation and benefits will increase significantly. Analysts
Analysts receive a food and housing stipend that provides for a comfortable standard of living in Kilifi, Kenya. Travel, health and personal expenses are not covered, though costs are generally low (e.g, a one hour bus ride from Kilifi to Mombasa costs 100 KSH/1.25 USD). Analysts who perform well may be eligible for Associate compensation and benefits (see Associate job description on komaza.org/recruiting for details).
