Overview
B Lab (www.bcorporation.net) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a new sector of the economy that harnesses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Lab, with support the Rockefeller Foundation, USAID, Prudential Financial, and Deloitte, is launching the Global Impact Investing Ratings System (GIIRS), which will provide impact investors with ratings for the social and environmental impact (but not the financial performance) of companies and funds. GIIRS is expected to become the standard by which institutional and high net worth investors measure the impact of their investments and to build the infrastructure needed to connect socially-focused entrepreneurs in need of capital with mission-aligned investors. Position Purpose:
B Lab is hiring a full-time staff member based in Nairobi, Kenya, to work with portfolio companies located in Africa and Asia. Job functions will include providing assistance to portfolio companies and entrepreneurs going through the GIIRS rating process, managing relationships with GIIRS-Rated Funds in Africa, and promoting adoption of GIIRS by companies and investors across the region.

Position Functions:

Client Support:
• Support companies located in Africa and Asia that are in the process of raising capital obtain a GIIRS Company Rating
• Conduct assessment reviews with companies that are in the process of receiving a GIIRS rating in Africa and Asia
• Support the implementation of GIIRS partnerships with investor networks (i.e regional social stock exchanges)
• Provide feedback to GIIRS’ standards team on companies’ experience with GIIRS’ standards and technology platforms
• Provide feedback to GIIRS’ standards team on applicability of the GIIRS Assessment to East Africa

Technical Assistance:
• Assist companies and funds in improving their GIIRS score
• Assist companies and funds adopting IRIS (http://iris.thegiin.org/)
• Assist GIIRS rated companies and funds in improving their business operations and financial performance

Business Development:
• Identify and assist interested venture capital and private equity funds in East Africa learn about and obtain a GIIRS Fund rating
• Identify and assist interested entrepreneurs in East Africa learn about and obtain a GIIRS Company ratings
• General activities around the promotion of GIIRS in the East African region

Qualifications:
• Passion for using business to solve social and environmental problems, via experience working with socially or sustainably-focused private sector businesses or impact-focused non-profit organizations;
• High energy, self-managing, entrepreneurial personality;
• Strong relationship-building, communications, analytical, and organizational skills;
• Willingness to travel up to 20-40% of the time;
• University (4 year) degree in Economics, Business or a related degree;
• English language fluency required, plus Swahili and/or French. Ability to speak other languages desired;
• 5 years professional experience, preferably in a role which required managing external relationships;
