From JobSeeker To Self Employment.

If most of us are asked about our dream working situation and what it would entail, I can bet 99% will list self-employment and the ability to open a business as the top requirement. Having the ability to complete your work according to your own deadlines and specifications is a great stress-reducer.

Very few people enjoy getting up in the morning to commute to that corporate cubicle. There is no greater joy than self-realization that abounds in working for yourself and being the real you with the power to control your own destiny.

Pursuing your own interests is one of the biggest joys of working and you’ll agree with me that there is no fun in having a big brother watching what you are doing, how you are doing it, when and why you are doing it. In short, one of the biggest advantages of self-employment is that you will have no one to answer to but yourself.

You are both an employer and an employee and in your dual role you must play both roles. The same thing that makes self-employment scary is what makes it attractive and adventurous. Nobody will take care of you, but instead of dwelling on that as bad news, embrace it as good news, it means you will be in charge. You will be responsible for yourself – and often for others too. You get to decide when to spend money to help your business grow, you have the chance to make the best out of your personal ideas without objection, you can influence when you receive income, you can distribute income to family members by hiring them as employees, You have a wide range of pension choices and the list goes on.

The real pitfall arises when people decide to venture in self-employment without the necessary skills and experience with the hope that someday, out of the usual determination and drive for the big note, life will be much easier.

First of all, self employment can never thrive on hoping, you’re either for it 100% or against it. Reality is the drive for money and the pride of owning a reputable and successful business makes most of us want to quit employment almost instantly. Word of truth though, never quit employment if you feel unsure or unmotivated.

Venturing in self employment is as demanding as it can get, it requires carefully calculated steps such as necessary skills for the job, endless sacrifices right from your social life to your career, temperament and the discipline needed to run a business, self-preparedness for emergencies, enough savings to keep you afloat until your venture runs smoothly, in short a of self-employment is not a vacation, you’re in fact required to work harder than you used to in employment considering that in self- employment, you are not paid for sick days, you have come up with the money to pay for your own health insurance among other bills, if you have a question about employees you can’t run to the personnel office on the 8th floor to get an answer, everything is your responsibility.

For the young Entrepreneurs in the making, do not lose your motivation for being in self employment some day, whether sooner or much later. Seek first some work experience however little. Consider that job you find stressing as heaven sent, the tougher your work conditions the better for your future business as this teaches you how to deal with tough situations, how to handle complicated professional and personal issues in a work environment.

Employment is necessary for every future Entrepreneur, it is that unpaid research for future ventures. Self-employment is equally necessary but only for those with solid ambition and the right attitude for life challenges so whether to be self-employed or work for someone else, that’s a choice that only you can make, and one with no right or wrong answer.
