Database Administration Manager Job in Kenya - Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company

Position: Database Administration Manager

Ref: NCWSC2012-008

Location: Headquarters - Kampala Road Industrial Area

Grade: 3

Reporting to: ICT Director

Supervises: Database Administration Coordinators and Officers

Broad Role: The Database Administration Manager (DBAM) is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the Companies database. Additional role requirements are likely to include planning, development and troubleshooting.

Duties and responsibilities

Organization’s database server administrationAssist in the selection, installation, qualification, testing and validation of enterprise database systems and applicationsDesign and develop databases, database users and database security and other database objects. Maintain version control of custom database objects and assist with the creation of entity relationship and modeling diagrams for new custom databasesCreate and maintain jobs/scripts with automated scheduling alerts, configuration and monitoring for all current and future databases. Responsible for monitoring the status of scheduled backups and database jobsResponsible for database security and the analysis and application of database patches and upgrades to database servers and componentsOptimization and performance tuning for all current and future databases and assisting the application team with application performance tuningWork with the Information Security Office to ensure compliance. Participate in audits by maintaining the necessary logs and providing reports or extracts to the qualified resources as requested for the auditsPerform imports, exports and data conversion from one system to another as needed. Migrate between database platforms as necessaryParticipate in designing, setting up, implementing and testing business continuity and disaster recovery installationsInstalling and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS).Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctlyCommunicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and securityOversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failoverImplement mechanisms for the restoration and recovery of databasesProvide 24/7 support for critical situations.Education, Professional Qualifications and Work Experience
Degree in ICT or related field and/or relevant professional certification preferably Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)At least 5 years experience in data base administration or data base developmentExperience of managing multiple RDBMS on large systemsPractical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability servicePractical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database securityExperience of Transactional SQL, and DTS stored procedures.Required Skills and Competencies
