Project/Proposal Summary:
USAID/Kenya intends to undertake performance evaluation of its Teacher Education and Professional Development Program (TEPD) as implemented by FHI 360. The purpose of the TEPD program is to improve the quality of instruction so that teacher trainees are better prepared to face the realities of classrooms in marginalized communities in Kenya.
Position Summary:
MSI is seeking an Education, Teacher Training and Gender Expert to provide technical expertise and evaluation skills in reviewing TEPD’s contributions to achieving girl’s empowerment and TEPD’s impact on improving the competencies of teachers in Kenya.
The consultancy is expected to begin by January 14, 2013 and end no later than April 30, 2013.
Responsibilities:
• Design baseline, household and/or firm-level surveys;
• Actively participate in the design of assessment;
• Serve as a liaison with organizations and entities working in the region;
• Conduct desk research;
• Analysis of qualitative data and assist in report writing;
• Provide technical advice on girl’s empowerment, teacher training and education best practices as needed.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years of experience developing, managing and/or evaluating teacher education programs in Africa;
• Master’s Degree in gender studies, education or related field;
• At least 10 years of experience designing baseline, household and firm-level surveys in developing countries;
• Prior experience working on USAID evaluations strongly preferred;
• Fluency in both Swahili and English required.
