About The BOMA Project

The BOMA Project is an award-winning, fast-growth organization that seeks to build the resilience of ultra-poor women in the aridlands of Northern Kenya through an innovative grants-based two-year poverty graduation program. The BOMA Project is advancing the goals of building individual resilience to climate change, reducing vulnerability, increasing income and assets, providing a diversified livelihood, and helping families cope with shock.

In complement to this, The BOMA Project also runs a governance project in Marsabit County, with a view to strengthening the capacity of women at community level to participate in community decision-making and planning, particularly in the content of drought management and resilience.

Position Summary

BOMA is seeking a Training Manager to provide strong support to BOMA’s growing training needs, with a focus on development of capacities, resources and skills for delivery of the REAP program in the field. Additionally, BOMA is looking to standardize its program for replication and scale-up via partners, and this will require research, program development, and training materials production.

Duties and Responsibilities

Training for BOMA staff

Develop and oversee annual calendar of trainings for BOMA Village Mentors, Field Officers, Governance Field Team, enumerators and BOMA Monitoring and Evaluation staffManage the administration and logistics of training activities for BOMA staff, including budget, agenda, location, accommodation, materialsDevelop systematic Training of Trainers capacity inside BOMA to ensure field team, M and E team and senior management have the capacity to run training sessions for new staff and mentors

Scrutinize existing BOMA training materials and analyze key areas for improvement or creation of new manuals, handbooks, guidelines etc for field delivery of BOMA training programs to participantsResearch, field test and implement creative training and mentoring methodologies, including the use of drama and song, the full mobilization of peer to peer training and emerging training and social messaging delivery through the use of technologyDevelop and design visual, picture-based training, mentoring and goal setting materials that can be used to educate illiterate participantsResearch adult literacy opportunities or partnerships for BOMA participantsResearch opportunities to engage or partner with organizations globally on the use/adaptation of existing training resources, innovative training documents, best practice techniques and systems

External Training on BOMA Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (“REAP”) model

Support the process of standardizing the REAP model for replication and adaptation by other organizationsLead the process of developing a training program, with associated training materials, for delivery of REAP model through partner organizationsSupport the identification of, and dialogue with, potential partners for replication of REAP inside Kenya and the region

Profile
Essential qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, with master’s degree preferred
• At least three years of training experience in the NGO or private sector preferably in Kenya or

East Africa with rural field experience a plus

Demonstrated skills and experience in training staff across multiple levels of an organizationDemonstrated experience in drafting and delivering training materials

• Strong networking, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, with ability to determine priorities and pay attention to detail
• Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player
• High-level knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and design and publishing software
• Ability/willingness to work with extremely tight deadlines and multiple tasks.
• Excellent written and spoken English required

Background: Solutions for African Food Enterprises (SAFE) is a TechnoServe (TNS) program in partnership with USAID and Partners in Food Solutions, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of the African food processing sector and expanding availability of affordable and nutritious foods.
Partners in Food Solutions (PFS) is a non-profit organization formed by General Mills to link the technical and business expertise of volunteer employees from General Mills, Cargill, Royal Dutch DSM and Bühler. This program provides knowledge and technology transfer to build the capacity of African food processors, improving availability of nutritious foods and creating market opportunities for small holder farmers.
The ability of food processors to adopt to changing consumer needs in terms of product demand and specifically demand in certain product attributes have been singled out as a hindrance to the growth of their businesses. It is for this reason that SAFE has identified training in Product Development as a gap worth closing in the knowledge base on food processors in Kenya.

2.0 Period of Performance

The period of performance of any contract resulting from this solicitation is anticipated to begin on or about 1st July 2014 and last through 30th September 2014.  Proposals shall detail the estimated length of time required to accomplish all requirements, with detail on individual activity implementation dates, as referenced in the Scope of Work.

3.0 Criteria for Selection

The evaluation of each response to this RFP will be based on the requirements set out in the solicitation and any addenda thereto. At the sole discretion of TNS, the top proposals may be selected for follow-up questions or to provide an oral presentation.

Vacancy: Training Program Coordinator

IREX is an international nonprofit organization providing leadership and innovative programs to improve the quality of education, strengthen independent media, and foster pluralistic civil society development.


The SAFE Initiative seeks to enable journalists working in difficult environments to continue to do so as safely and securely as possible. This objective will be accomplished through the establishment of three regional centres for journalists – El Salvador for Latin America, Kenya for Africa, and Georgia for Eurasia.
 Summary of Position: The Training Program Coordinator, under the supervision of the Center Manager, will be contracted for an 8-month period to arrange logistics and improve regionally contextualised security trainings and workshops to journalists from East Africa and Horn of Africa. 
This position is open to Kenyan nationals.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

The training coordinator is responsible for end to end management of the training calendar and training events. You will plan, manage and deliver excellent courses, brilliant events and outstanding client experience that will drive participants to come back again and again and recommend us to others.
You will create wonderful, imaginative experiences with keen attention to detail ensure well organized training events.Actively market the training courses run by the company by ensuring that clients and potential clients are informed of the trainings the company is running in the yearDeveloping marketing materials as appropriateEvent planning, management and execution of logistics for all training courses both in-house and open courses. This position is contingent upon funding. Position Summary: Pact seeks a Training and Facilitation Advisor to work with Kenyan civil society and government organizations to foster improved government policy, ensure accountability, and support advocacy for improved service delivery. This work will be part of an anticipated USAID governance program in Kenya that is focused on supporting the devolution process of transitioning political power and functions from the central government to the regional and local governments, including establishing and strengthening the capacity of devolved government structures, county assemblies and working with citizens and civil society to hold devolved structures accountable. The position requires the development and implementation of high-quality training and peer learning events that foster improved knowledge and collaboration between stakeholders. Strong candidates will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills especially with members of civil society and local government. He/She will ensure high technical quality, meet program targets in accordance with work plans, and contribute to high-caliber progress reports.

Responsibilities • Develop and implement the technical and logistical aspects of training and peer learning events for civil society organizations, county level government and networks of individuals and organizations; • Utilize approaches centered in adult learning, appreciative inquiry and collaborative participation to ensure practical outputs of every project event; • Enable others to participate as co-facilitators bringing in external thought leaders as appropriate; • Document training and facilitation materials to ensure replicability; • Ensure that lessons learned are fed back into project activities; • Support the establishment of robust monitoring evaluation and learning systems across the project. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**:

Education and Experience Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in education, organizational development, development studies, political science, international relations, or other relevant field. • Minimum 6 years of technical experience working with civil society and or government in Kenya; • Technical experience in capacity development of civil society organizations and local government; • Experience working with civil society on human and institutional capacity development; • Strong background in training and facilitation that is grounded in adult learning approaches.

Other Qualifications: • Experience in Kenya required; • Ability to efficiently work in teams and coordinate between various stakeholders; • Strong familiarity with adult learning approaches, appreciative inquiry and collaborative participation; • Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning within a development project context; • Familiarity with USAID processes and procedures, rules and regulations highly desired; • Proven success navigating complex and high pressure operating environments
