Job Description:The Associate will be assigned to work with a High-Impact business for a 18 month period. The During training, the associates will undergo a SME Boot-camp where they will learn the skills necessary to be effective in their assignments. This will be through a combination of theory, best practices, actionable exercises (case studies), taught by subject matter experts from the IFC, World Bank, IADB, Social Impact Funds, US Embassies, American Chambers of Commerce, entrepreneurs and leading businesses executives from Colombia and Kenya.
It is expected that the engagement will allow the associates to help drive strategic decisions at the C-Level among the businesses we are helping. Some assignments may include any or all of the following:
a.) Project capital raising coordination (interfacing with consultants, potential investors/Venture Capitalists)
b.) Project lead in helping to validating or enhancing existing business models.
c.) Benchmark the business performance versus peer companies
d.) Review business performance history/set ambitious growth aspirations for the organization
We are looking for individuals who have excelled academically and have strong private sector work experience. Given the fact that you will be placed in a new and challenging environment, it is important that you are patient, persistent, flexible, and creative. We are a service project and we are looking for those who understand that they will be learning as much from the SME entrepreneurs and the surrounding environment, as they will impart in the form of advice and guidance.
Characteristics that we feel would make excellent candidates for Bizcorps Associates would include:
a.) Experience in an emerging market (whether at another program such as Endeavor, Acumen, US Peace Corps, study abroad or other);
b.) Strong experience in areas such as marketing, finance, governance, operations, or human resources;
c.) Track record as a leader with some management experience if possible; and
d.) High ethical standards, ability to show humility, and a passion for economic development as a means of fighting poverty.
Qualifications: We are open to Wharton Graduates who are International Students and would like to work in either Kenya/Colombia for a permanent or OPT position.
