Purpose of Position: Under the direction of the East Africa Region Communications Director, this advisor will manage or co-manage the planning, coordination and completion of regional plans, processes and projects for communications in East Africa.
These communications should together serve to:Position and enable the leadership of the Regional and National Offices for successful strategy execution, change management and overall leadership;Influence positive understanding by regional, national and global staff of the regional strategy and cause;Influence positive understanding by communities and supporters of EAR ministry at local, regional and global levels;Help ensure that Regional and National staff are well informed, engaged and motivated for high performance; andReinforce the World Vision International brand, build trust and positively influence organisational culture.Key ResponsibilitiesEAR Strategy:
Support the Regional Communications Director in the development and implementation of regional communications strategies and workplans, while assessing and building the communications strategies, plans, teams and performance of National Offices (NOs). These must be aligned to the global strategy.Support the Regional Communications Director in the development and design of Advocacy, Public Engagement and GAM regional strategies, plans and tools for regional and national offices.Work with the RCD to ensure communications is integrated in other EAR departments in order to grow profile, visibility, which builds an environment of awareness, understanding and trust for Influence, Income, programme / organizational effectiveness, and impact. Foster a communicative culture by supporting initiatives to train and equip non communications staff for internal and public engagement that grows influence, income and impact.Advise and support the EAR SMT on key areas of staff engagement communications as well as integration initiatives to support their successful change leadership, in line with strategy and cause.Manage the scheduled planning and content delivery for EAR newsletter and EAR section on wvcentral. Regional SHARE Management and Community Engagement Initiatives:Champion the use of SHARE within the region as a strategic channel of communications amongst the partnership.Highlight good editorial resources from the region.Assist in building capacity with National Communicators.Propose good content that can be posted on wvcentral or on wvi.org.Support C4D, Community Voice for Action and community based communications capacity in NOs with the active participation of children and communities.Guide the telling of our story, documentation with narrative evidence base.Digital Communications Management:Develop and implement communications strategies in East Africa for various World Vision social media channels.Providing communications advice including crafting of relevant messages, use of the right media channels by critically developing strategic solutions to given communications challenges.Update and maintenance of social media channels within the regional office (Twitter, Facebook, You tube).Train and advise (as needed) national communicators in providing and managing content for these sites.Support the RCD with media relations at a regional and national level to position World Vision EAR and its different strategies, campaigns and products.Prepare written materials; press releases, media briefings, questions and answers, training materials and other communications products.Developing strong media relations with key local and international media.Assist NOs to deal with crisis.Advise on strategy to curb crisis.Provide technical expertise in drafting crisis communications products.Humanitarian Emergency Affairs:Support the RCD and NOs in responding to emergencies or disasters with timely and effective information for the Regional Office and Support Office. Support may require travel to the field.Engage SOs and other internal stakeholders to assure coordinated and guided support to NOs during emergencies.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesA full commitment to World Visions core values and humanitarian mandate.Perform other duties as required by the Regional Communications Director.Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience:Minimum requirement: Bachelors Degree in Journalism, public relations or related field.Good understanding of East Africa region.At least five years experience in communications in the development sector.Advanced understanding of internet and latest communication trends/ technologies.Extensive background in communications, journalism and web-based information management.Extensive background in coordinating; producing written content for donor/ sponsor engagement, public advocacy and media relations purposes.Strong organisational and time-management skills.Experience with professional photography and video editing.Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communications skills.Excellent writing and editing skills in English.Working Environment / Conditions:Work environment: Office-based with travel as required.How to ApplyCLICK HERE to apply online
