Kenya Maritime Authority Environment Officer Job in Mombasa




Kenya Maritime Authority is a State Corporation whose mandate is to

regulate, coordinate and oversee maritime affairs guided by the Kenya

Maritime Act, No. 5 of 2006 and the Merchant Shipping Act 2009. 



The Authority wishes to invite suitable candidates to fill the following vacant position:



Environment Officer



(KMAG 4)
 



Department: Marine Environment Protection
 



Section: Marine Environment Protection
 



Reports To: Marine Environment Protection Manager
 


 


Supervision: N/A
 



Location / Region: KPA Offices (SAR Centre), Mombasa
 



Purpose: Responsible for undertaking surveillance, monitoring and preventing oil spills and other harmful substances at sea and inland waters, and implementing the National oil spill response contingency plan.




Primary Responsibilities:


  • Carrying out environmental impact assessment;

  • Assessing the environmental impact assessment reports;

  • Document oil/chemical spill cost;

  • Quantifying environmental damage caused by pollution;

  • Monitoring underwater and over water environments; and

  • Exploring and exploiting offshore developments projects in Kenya navigable waters.


Person Specifications:
 



Academic Qualifications


  • Combined class 2/1 certificate of competency


Professional Qualifications


  • Higher diploma in nautical science;

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental Science and management.


Experience


  • At least 3 years relevant experience either carrying out related environmental impact assessment or a first officer in a vessel.


Skills


  • Excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills and highly confidential;

  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standard office computer applications

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
