Introduction
WUSC – World University Service of Canada – is a leading Canadian non‐profit organization in International development, committed to building a more equitable and sustainable world. We work with a unique and powerful network of post‐secondary institutions, private‐sector partners and volunteers to provide education, employment and empowerment opportunities that improve the lives of millions of disadvantaged youth around the world. WUSC is working in partnership with Windle Trust Kenya (WTK) to implement the Kenya Equity in Education Project (KEEP) which will improve retention and performance of marginalised girls in primary and secondary school in northern Kenya. The KEEP project began in 2013 and will finish in Dec 2017.
Background
Although KEEP activities do not directly address disability issues or those relating to children with disabilities, project staff do come across many such cases. Provision of appropriate services for these children is extremely important, but difficult because of the complicated nature of the cases, and need to get multiple actors involved. To address this, we propose a thorough mapping of existing disability mechanisms, services and service providers to the schools and communities in which the KEEP works (Kakuma, Turkana West, Dadaab, Wajir and Fafi). This will be followed by a series of workshops to create a set of standard operating procedures for KEEP, partner organizations, and local government to coordinate in getting children the support they need.
Although there are several initiatives that work with disabled children in Kakuma and Dadaab, consolidated information around the efforts as well as their impact needs to be strengthened. Thus, there is a need to coordinate between the existing initiatives through a comprehensive approach involving broad based partnerships. KEEP would like to commence this Disability mapping and identify key partnerships that are required to drive the agenda forward.

KEEP is seeking the services of a qualified professional to undertake this assignment on a short-term consultancy basis.
