STAFF MAINSTREAMING WORKSHOP AND TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

Concern Worldwide is an international non-governmental humanitarian organisation dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Concern is committed to delivering high quality programmes, ensuring effectiveness and impact, fostering innovation and learning to improve our practice, ensuring transparency and accountability in all that we do and adherence to standards of best practice. Concern Worldwide is committed to addressing key cross cutting issues and approaches that we know are essential to effective programmes. These include: equality/gender, risk and vulnerability, social protection, capacity building, partnership, Disaster Risk Reduction, and HIV & AIDS. In Kenya, Concern works in the Basic Education, Health and Nutrition and Livelihoods sectors implementing development and emergency responses in Nairobi and Marsabit Counties and also offers support to other Concern countries in the region. The overall strategic direction of our work for the next five (5) years is as outlined in the Country Strategic Plan 2017-2022.

Due to Concern changing the focus of Programming, restructuring and the dwindling funds, Concern Kenya has not been on the forefront in sensitizing staff on cross cutting issues such as Child Protection, Social Protection, Human Rights, Gender Equality and Equity and HIV/AIDS. At the same time, having started 2017 on a low note due to funding challenges, Concern has experienced a number of staff exits either by resignation or redundancy. This has affected the morale of the staff and the team spirit has gone down. This has been widened further by the fact that the staff in the field – Marsabit and the ones in Nairobi do not interact often. As the HR department, we have seen this also affect staff relations and to some extent their performance. It is therefore prudent to bridge this gap and revive the once vibrant team.

CONSULTANCY OBJECTIVES

The staff mainstreaming workshop and team building activity is meant to build the capacity of staff in delivering more coordinated and complementary responses. The workshop and team building activity is intended to enlighten staff on the current trends of the cross cutting issues as well as improve staff relations, motivation, communication, knowledge and feedback sharing and a more integrated way of working for effective and efficient responses.
