The Judicial Service
Commission is established under Article
171 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, with a mandate of
promoting and facilitating the independence and accountability of the Judiciary
and the efficient, effective and transparent administration of justice.
Towards achieving this
mandate, JSC wishes to competitively recruit qualified persons to fill the
declared vacancies of Resident Magistrate in the Judiciary establishment.

Job Purpose
The job holder is required
to preside over Resident Magistrate’s Court in any part of Kenya with
jurisdiction as stipulated in various statutes, carry out a wide range of
administrative functions for those heading stations
Reporting
Responsibilities: Reports to respective Head of Station/Unit
Area of Deployment: The successful
candidates will be posted as Resident Magistrates to any court station in the
country
Responsibilities
Specific duties will
include: –
- Presiding
as a Resident Magistrate in any court station in Kenya with jurisdiction
as stipulated in various statutes; - Performing
Deputy Registrars duties as stipulated in various statues; - Overseeing
the operations of the court(s) and management of staff under his/her
charge; and - Carrying
out a wide range of administrative functions for those heading stations - Any
other duties assigned from time to time
Job Requirements:
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- For
appointment to the position of Resident Magistrate, an applicant must be
in possession of the following minimum qualifications: – - A
Law Degree from any recognized University; - A
Diploma from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal
Education; - Admission
to the Roll of Advocates; - Proficiency
in computer applications; - Must
not have any pending complaints with the Advocates Complaints Commission,
the Disciplinary Committee or adverse report from current and previous
employer(s); - Must
possess the qualifications set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of
Kenya - Experience: Three (3) years post
admission experience
either in private practice or other employment and a current practicing
certificate.

Society of Kenya - Directorate
of Criminal Investigation - Advocates
Complaints Commission - Ethics
and Anti-Corruption Commission and - A
recognized Credit Reference Bureau
