Position Title: Job Placement Assistant
Location: Kakuma, Kenya
Reports to: Pathfinder Coordinator
Starting date: Immediately
Contract duration: 5 months

Organizational Context
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organization with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organization was founded in November 1980 and has a presence in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term wellbeing of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. JRS offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining a realistic and localised scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, etc.
Operational Context/Role
The candidate is charged with ensuring students get relevant and insightful workplace experience and assist them with the transition into workforce. The job placement assistant will look for placement opportunities that match the skills and preferences of their student candidates.
Students in the pathfinder program are required to complete internships in established organizations and complete capstone projects to demonstrate their learned skills. The job placement assistant plays a significant role in the students’ internship and capstone initiatives. The job placement assistant serves as a key interlocutor between students and potential employers and provides students with necessary trainings and opportunities to secure internships in established organizations.
The Job Placement Assistant ensures the provision of internship proposals and feedback to the JRS Education Team.
Key Responsibilities
- The Job Placement Assistant responsibilities include getting the university or college students placed in good companies/organizations.
- Source job placements, volunteer opportunities and internships for students and alumni
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with industry to market the post-secondary students, identify opportunities for new alliances and explore mutual areas of partnership.
- Negotiate with employers for Student Placement, Mentorship, Job-shadowing opportunities, Volunteer Work, Company visits, on and off Center Talks and Training
- Develop statistical reports on employer engagement, student placements and training programs.
- Conduct Career Mentorship sessions as well as manage Career Development Seminars, Workshops, Career Fairs and Networking events to link students and alumni to industry.
- Coordinate all job placement services.
- Organize employment recruitment drives and annual career fairs.
- Develop, implement, and maintain job placement, mentorship and career programs for students and alumni.
- Develop and maintain databases of student and employer information.
- Protect the confidentiality of client information.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, social sciences or equivalent
- Conversant with employers and stakeholders in Turkana including Kakuma Refugee Camp , Kalobeyei Settlement and its environs.
- Experience in facilitating workshops, mentorship and coaching
- Must be highly proactive in communicating locally and internationally with potential employers.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and management skills
- Proficiency with MS Office and other relevant Google apps
- Critical and contextual thinking skills
- Flexibility, resilience to stress and ability to work under high pressure.
- Excellent organizational skills and event planning experience
- Experience in advocacy and networking
