Catholic Relief Services Project Officers (Emergency and Protection) and Administration Officer / Stores Logistician Jobs in Kenya

Catholic Relief Services –USCCB is the official agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for relief and development overseas.

CRS supports programs in over 100 countries and works through local partners.

We are seeking suitable persons to fill the following positions in response to the drought crisis in the country.

All candidates require technical competencies in the respective areas, experience in emergency programming, willingness to travel to the field and a commitment to work with and support faith based partners of CRS many of whom are Catholic Institutions.

The positions will be based in the field in Eastern and North Eastern Counties.

1) Project Officer - Emergency

Ref. 2011/12

Duration: Six months

Purpose: To ensure overall quality management of the drought emergency program.

Summary of Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The officer will work closely with Emergency Program Manager, other Program Managers, emergency team and partners to ensure overall quality management of the CRS drought emergency response.

S/he will work very closely with partner field staff to build their capacity and assist with the implementation and management of project activities, provide oversight of commodity management and distributions and monitor the use of relief goods as appropriate.

S/he will produce accurate and timely reports (e.g., weekly and monthly) on progress towards objectives; highlight issues of concern as identified.

The incumbent will also conduct random interviews of beneficiaries to determine the efficiency of the program and make recommendations for improvement. S/he will represent CRS to the local authorities, GOK offices, NGOs and other agencies operating in the area.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Minimum high school diploma; University degree in any of these fields; General Management, Logistics, Financial Management, Accounting, Statistics or equivalent highly desiredExperience in implementing US Government-funded projects and commodity distribution programsExcellent communication skills both oral and written and computer skills (Microsoft Office programs)Strong analytical and creative problem-solving and good planning & organization skills,A professional with high personal integrity, commitment and good steward of agency resourcesAbility to cope with work with people from diverse backgroundsWillingness to travel and work within remote rural areas under frequently difficult conditions2) Project Officer – Protection

Ref. 2011/13

Duration: Six Months

Purpose: Provide protection technical support to the Drought Emergency Program.

Summary of Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Officer will produce accurate and timely reports on the progress towards objectives; highlight issues of concern as identified, ensure quality emergency programming in the protection sector.

S/he will promote initiatives that address change in harmful social norms and structures that condone or promote gender-based violence (GBV), child maltreatment and stigma and discrimination by improving and expanding social and protective systems and services.

The Officer will participate in liaison meetings with partners, GoK officials, NGOs and other agencies operating in the same areas and provide feedback as well as being a team member in ongoing monitoring and assessment of program and project activities in the intervention areas

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

At least a university degree in Sociology, Anthropology, or other relevant area of studyHave solid working knowledge (practical skills) in protection and counseling,A thorough understanding of Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Children rightsA solid background dealing with all forms of discriminationSensitive diverse cultural backgrounds within the project areaStrong analytical and creative problem-solving and good planning & organization skillsExcellent communication skills both oral and written and computer skills (Microsoft Office programs)A professional with high personal integrity, commitment and good stewardship of resourcesAbility cope with work with people from diverse backgrounds, communicate strategically under pressure and manage stress & complexities.Ability to being sensitive, motivated and empathize3) Administration Officer - Stores Logistician

Ref. 2011/14

Duration: Six months

Purpose: To provide effective and efficient commodities control and logistical support.

Summary of Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Officer will be responsible for verifying and receiving incoming goods and supplies against documentation, safe keeping in appropriate storage, issuing and/or dispatching as duly authorized and maintaining records thereof.

S/he will assist in travel and accommodation bookings for staff and partners in Consultation with Project and Administration Staff.

Provide support in security related matters in liaison with the Administration Manager.

Conduct frequent inspections of the stores, carry out stock takes, prepare and submit the relevant reports to the appropriate authorities.

S/he will monitor stocks and ensure a continuous availability of operating supplies.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Diploma with a professional qualification in administration, and or logistics3 years professional experience in a similar or related capacity, preferably with an international developmentStrong organizational skills and ability to lead and plan effectivelyProven ability in relating with people of different nationalities/culturesDemonstrate meticulous record keeping and attention to detail.Good bargaining/negotiating skillsExcellent communication skills both oral and written and computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs)Integrity & Professionalism and diplomacyWritten applications indicating the reference number of position applied for and CV including day-time contact phone numbers, as well as names and contact information of three references should reach the below mentioned by July 31, 2011.
