The Opportunity:

Following the first significant oil find in this region, our clients local operation is growing. This is a hugely exciting time for our client and the region’s local communities. Whilst the size and scope of the ultimate operation is still unknown, this is a fantastic opportunity for a highly experienced Environmental Professional to set high standards of Environmental management for all current and future operations in this region.

Working as part of a team of well-regarded industry specialists, this position provides an in country focal point for all for environmental planning and operational support; developing environmental policies, systems and procedures, setting up operations in challenging and remote areas, including UNESCO World Heritage sites, and National Parks. Our client takes the utmost care to operate in co-operation with the local communities and government. You will work closely with the organisations Corproate Social Responsibility specalists and through on-going liaison with partners and government departments you will ensure awareness and compliance with local and international regulations and standards.

This is a rare opportunity to lead the environmental function in this uniquely challenging region. Establishing, coaching and mentoring your team to provide world-class Environmental management for this high profile development.

The Person:

We are seeking a highly professional environmental specialist, with an outstanding reputation in the industry for proactive environmental management. Proven success within a similar role within the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry is essential.

Respected Track Record – Previous environmental management experience gained in challenging environments. Proven ability to engage with government authorities. Able to manage activities in multiple locations including remote locations. Preferred exposure to African projects. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to local community issues. Proven ability to produce high quality EIA’s and EMP’s, and robust Environmental Management plans.Technical Knowledge – Outstanding technical knowledge gained in the oil and gas exploration sector. Strong knowledge of International Codes of Practice, Environmental Legislation, Waste Management Practices, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and Oil Spill Contingency Systems.Leadership and Organization — Exceptional capacity to build relationships with partners and colleagues that are spread across multiple sites. Understand and contribute to team goals and encourage a culture of proactive cooperation among a group of diverse, talented individuals. Ability to motivate and influence others to deliver outstanding Environmental services.Personal Qualities – Proactive; energetic; flexible; organised; diplomatic; independent; adaptable; positive.Communication Skills – Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively report to senior management consistently.Solid Educational Background — Preferably a BSc in Environmental Science or a related field.
