The Institute seeks to appoint a Head for its Crime and Justice Division based at the ISS office in Nairobi. Applicants should have strong management skills as well as a sound knowledge of crime, criminal justice and crime prevention issues on the African continent. As Division Head, the successful candidate will also oversee the ISS Nairobi office and serve as part of the senior management of the ISS reporting to the Deputy Executive Director. The Division Head will be responsible for: the strategic direction of the Crime and Justice Division and the identification of key thematic areas for policy research and capacity building on the continent, fund-raising and donor liaison, financial management, delivery of project outputs, staff management, quality control over the training, research and policy products of the Crime and Justice Division, and engagement with stakeholders in Kenya, East Africa and internationally.
Requirements:
A minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent in political studies, law or relevant social science field
At least 10 years relevant work experience in a policy, research or professional environment with a focus on the criminal justice sector
At least five years of senior management experience
Excellent financial management and human resource management skills
Excellent research and writing skills, and a record of relevant publications
Strong track record in fund-raising and donor liaison
A team leader with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in cooperation with governments and civil society
Experience in providing direct policy support to governments
Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
Willingness to travel extensively regionally and internationally
