Reports to:Media Manager
Job Purpose:
Conduct media liaison on behalf of the organisation’s clients.
Responsibilities (Functions and duties):
Develops media plans for clients.
Looks for media opportunities to leverage on for clients.
Pitches for stories in the media for clients.
Develops Public Relation strategies and plans for clients.
Develops press release on clients’ events, new products e.t.c
Draws up proposals for new business.
Develops speeches for key note speakers of clients’ events.
Develops media relations reports for clients.
Develops scripts for interviews.
Builds relationships between media outlets and clients.
Networks with media personalities.
Does contact reports in the absence of Account Executives.
Drafts invitations in the absence of Account Executives.
Develops PR campaigns and Plans/Strategies.
Coordinates interviews between clients and media interviewers/
Conducts media interviews with clients.
Develops content for clients’ editorial materials such as newsletters, supplements e.t.c.
Conducts media stations rounds to drop coverage in the absence of cameramen.
Ensures all media coverage reaches media houses on time to ensure maximum coverage for the client. This means coordinating if vehicles are needed in advance.
Provides leadership and guidance to Media Executives
Oversees work of Media Executives
Performance Measures and Targets:
Ensuring there is balanced media coverage for clients by both main stream and smaller media
Developing effective key messages from any communication campaign, press releases and speeches
Ensuring content developed is captured by the media and is transmitted to the right audience.
Ensuring clients get media coverage in top tier media
Maintaining prompt approvals by clients for any editorial content where there is minimal ‘back and forth’ with the client
Liaises with Media Monitoring to ensure correct Media Monitoring is happening
Assists the Account Executive / Event Executive with reports as agreed with client
Role Reports:
Monthly reports
Quarterly reports
Contact Reports- In the absence of the Account Executive
Event Reports- Media Relations section
Experience:
2 years experience in Public Relations and Journalism
2 years as a business journalist
Qualifications:
Academic: Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communications
Specialist knowledge required:
Proficiency in English and Kiswahili
Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
