Background: This baseline

is to be conducted as an integral step towards the establishment of Green

innovation centres which is one of the components of the broader GIZ vision of

“One world zero hunger”. 
 



This

is a global project that aims to use innovation in the agricultural and food

sector to boost the incomes of smallholders, create more employment

opportunities (particularly in food processing), and to increase regional food

supplies in the project’s rural target areas. 


Value

chains of interest will include dairy and orange fleshed sweet potatoes

(OFSP).To achieve this, the project works with innovation partners locally to

promote green innovation networks in the agricultural and food industry. 


Together,

they are developing innovative approaches to growing, processing and selling

staple foods, and establishing and implementing programmes for strengthening

the domestic processing sector.
 


Sustainet

EA ,a regional consulting company has been sub contracted by GFA to implement

the household baseline survey for GIZ Green Innovation program. 


Sustainet

EA,will therefore  spearhead this assignment in western Kenya  and

seeks to recruit enumerators  specifically in Bungoma Siaya and Kakamega.

Purpose: The enumerator

will be responsible for carrying out the interview with individuals selected

specifically at the household level (House hold survey). 





The

enumerator will have an important task of delivering first-hand information

from the community. 


He or

she, working under the guidance of the field supervisor will thus be required

to ascertain the accuracy information being collected.  


Further,

this nature of assignment requires that the enumerator is consistent across

tables and that all tables and data sheets in the survey are adequately completed.  


Enumerators

must check over surveys upon completion and sign the survey verifying the

accuracy of the survey.  

Responsibilities and Tasks of the enumerator:



  • Under

    go 3 day training  in Kisumu town

  • Conduct

    test trials before the commencement of the actual house hold survey

  • Study

    and understand all instruction included in the enumerators guide and

    provided through the preceding training

  • Coordinate

    with the supervisor on how to carry out the survey and to report daily

    work done;

  • Check

    that material necessary to carry out the survey is sufficient, appropriate

    and accurate;

  • Introduce

    yourself, explaining who you are and for who you are working in a manner

    that facilitates the participation of individuals in the survey;

  • Accurately

    capture and record  data from the household surveys

  • Double

    check and revise the survey at the end of the survey in order to correct

    mistakes and sign off on completed surveys as verification of the accuracy

    of the survey.

  • Ensure

    adherence to the Code of Conduct for Enumerators.


Reporting

Arrangements: 
The

Enumerator will report to the Field supervisor

Commencement dates


Training in Kisumu: 23 – 26 May
Pilot survey: 27 – 28 May
Field survey: 30 May – 23 June


Qualifications



  • Ability

    to read and write

  • Fluent

    in English, Kiswahili and local languages in the target counties

  • Advanced

    level certificate (university education desired)

  • Competencies

    in community mobilization and facilitation/training and good understanding

    of rural livelihoods
