Vacancy Announcement for the Position of a Programme Officer
The APSP is seeking to recruit a Programme Officer for a fixed term of six months starting from June 2016
Overall Purpose
To work with the Programme Manager and the rest of the APSP team ensure effective implementation of the APSP’s Strategic Plan and to participate in the implementation and evaluation of programmes, including interacting with APSP Platforms across Africa to increase awareness and engagement in social protection initiatives; engage with key partners at the policy, programme and funding levels in order to influence a response in the development of lasting social protection programmes in Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities
Advocacy Coordination
- Develop and disseminate advocacy materials and information on social protection to the APSP audience
- Regularly compile content collected from progress made in different countries where APSP works.
- With the program team, organize, participate, lead and implement awareness campaigns, lobbying and advocacy activities aimed at promoting and developing social protection in Africa in line with the APSP’s action plans
Programmes
- Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of designated projects
- With other programme team members, develop proposals and compile regular internal and external (donor) reports
- Work with the Programmes Manager and Finance and Administration Manager who maintains internal programme monitoring systems to ensure due dates for internal and external reporting are met by relevant departments
- Represent the APSP and make presentations covering key aspects of Social Protection
- To be involved in the organization of training and other events organized by the APSP
- Maintain programme monitoring systems including updating information systems about reports due, reports received and proposals due.
Person specification
Essential
- Degree level of education in social sciences.
- At least 5 years work experience with an NGO
- Experience doing communications and advocacy work for an NGO
- Knowledge and understanding of social protection policies and programmes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in compiling, producing and disseminating information
- Familiarity with writing proposals and reports of major international donors with different needs and timeframes.
- Kenyan national
Desirable:
- Excellent written and spoken English as well as a critical eye for editing and grammar
- Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in a timely manner
Strong team work skills

M.A degree
