Kenya Commercial Bank Limited is registered as a non-operating holding company which started operations as a licensed banking institution with effect from January 1, 2016. The holding company oversees KCB Kenya – incorporated with effect from January 1, 2016 – and all KCB’s regional units in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan. It also owns KCB Insurance Agency, KCB Capital, KCB Foundation and all associate companies. The holding company was set up to among other things to enhance the Group’s capacity to access unrestricted capital and also enable investment in new ventures outside banking regulations, achieve operational and strategic autonomy for the Group’s operating entities and enhance corporate governance across the Group and oversight in management of subsidiaries.
The Position:
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Banking, the position will be responsible for:
- The strategic leadership and management of the Special Assets portfolio by creating customized solutions and maximizing shareholder value.
- Management of the Corporate Banking loan book whose exposure is at risk and classified as Early Alert and Watch.
- Proactively supporting the Corporate Banking team out to prevent migration, losses and reduce the Bank’s Risk.
- Leading a team of Special assets Managers to co-create and implement restructuring and recovery strategies
Key Responsibilities:
- To develop and lead the implementation of the Special Assets Unit strategy in line with the overall Corporate Banking Strategy; to ensure achievement of profitability targets through prevention of losses, migration and maximization of recoveries
- Develop and implement restructuring and recovery strategies towards reduction of non-performing loans levels and prevent migration
- Develop the special assets unit policies and procedures to ensure early identification and management of special asset names for improvement of risk management in the bank
- Build and maintain productive and strategic relations with Customers/ Relationship Managers/ Legal/Credit/ and other stakeholders in order to drive sustainable and effective turnaround strategies
- To monitor accounts exhibiting weaknesses or potential weaknesses and recommend appropriate remedial intervention(s).
Job Requirements:
For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business Administration, Economics, Finance from an Institution recognized by CUE
- Professional qualifications in CPAK, ACCA, AKIB or Master’s degree is added advantage
- 10 – 15 years relevant experience in Corporate or Retail Banking with at least 10 years in Senior Management position in either Credit or Commercial Banking with credit recovery experience
- Relevant credit management experience locally or internationally
- Experience in the management of a P&L and balance sheet drivers while driving asset quality across client portfolios
- Demonstrated experience in people management and diverse stakeholder management that include relationships with government entities, legal practitioners and a variety of service providers
- Strong analytical, business development and solutioning skills
