Youth Alive! Kenya Project Assistant (Counseling) Job Vacancy

As part of strengthening the operations of Youth Alive! Kenya we seek to recruit a suitable young person to join our impressive team of professionals as a Project Assistant-Counseling.

Working under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, Health the position entails supporting the direct implementation of project activities specifically counselling within 6 target institutions in Nairobi and Kiambu Districts.

The engagement is for an initial three months with possibility of extension.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Spearhead the provision of counselling services to children within the projectSupport the implementation of all direct activities within the institution with a special emphasis on provision of health and life skills education within the partner institutionEnsure the establishment and maintenance of ethical cognitive and psychosocial support systems within the partner institutionsConduct ongoing monitoring and periodic evaluation of the institutional psychosocial support systems recommending remedial/corrective actionIn consultation with relevant governmental authorities and other stakeholders assist in the identification of critical elements for the effective psychosocial support systems as well as in the documentation of the sameUnder the guidance of the programme officer assist in the development of all technical information strategies and materials necessary to undertake project trainings and drive project activitiesMobilize community groups and other relevant stakeholders to actively participate in the project processesSupport the reintegration of children into their communities by conducting family tracing, mediation and follow upAny other duty that you may be called upon to execute from time to timeDesired Skills & Qualifications
Must be between the ages of 25 and 30 years;Must be a certified counsellor from an accredited institution of higher learningMust have demonstrated experience in counselling. Experience in counselling children in difficult circumstances is an added advantageMust have a strong disposition to and experience in working with disadvantaged children and youthTraining and/or experience in Public Health and/or Social Work will be an added advantageMust have excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills with fluency in English;Must be a team player with the ability to work with others to achieve high goals in a fast paced and culturally diverse environment;Must be a self-starter with ambition who can work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines;Must be an outstanding role model for young people, of unquestionable integrity and high ethical standardsIf you believe you merit our consideration, please email us your letter of application alongside detailed Curriculum Vitae with three referees, email and day-time telephone contacts to be received by the close of business on the September 21st 2011 to hr@youthalivekenya.org.
