NDI has been active in Somalia since late 2005 and is expanding its programming to build opportunities for broader citizen engagement in the democracy and reconciliation processes in Somalia.
The Institute is seeking two local positions: Program Officer and Program Assistant to assist in the implementation of programming for a four month contract.
Both positions require excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with government personnel, members of donor organizations, and policy makers.
Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team; ability and willingness to travel throughout East Africa including Djibouti and Somalia.
Program Officer
This position, under the supervision of the Resident Program Manager will be responsible for implementing activities in his/ her programmatic area and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the program.
This will include facilitating technical assistance; coordinating administration and logistics; managing staff and consultants; building and maintaining relationships with partners; ensuring the effective monitoring and evaluation of programs, progress and outcomes.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in international relations or related field.A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in international development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development, or legislative affairs;
exceptional writing skills;
excellent translation and interpretation skills from English to Somali and Somali to English;
computer literacy; and
ability to do political analysis required.Program Assistant
