Deputy Director, Malaria Control Team

Broadly, MCT aims to reduce malaria cases and deaths through sustainable approaches in the public and private sectors, and to increase the number of malaria free countries in the world. We operate by bridging the gap between supply and demand for malaria diagnostics and drugs, and by acting as a constructive translator between countries and donors, academia and global policy makers. MCT’s activities span over 16 countries, with a team comprising over 30 members throughout the organization.

Preference for Africa or Europe as base location; minimum 2 years commitment; regular travel required

Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director for MCT will be responsible for supporting the Director of the team across all areas of work: strategy development, programmatic implementation, financial management, fundraising and donor reporting, external stakeholder management, internal communications, and human resources. Specific responsibilities include:
•Manage day-to-day program operations across diverse work streams to achieve results within tight timelines, ensuring that MCT provides coordinated technical support to country teams, and ensuring that MCT outputs consistently pass the highest quality standard;
•Identify and pursue new areas of work and partnerships within the global malaria agenda that will have dramatic and leveraged impact on health outcomes;
•Represent the organization in the global malaria community and communicate malaria strategy and results to major organizational partners and donors;
•Support the continuous revision and dissemination—to internal and external stakeholders—of the organization's malaria strategy;
•Engage with donors to ensure ongoing funding for the organization’s malaria work, with a strong donor pipeline;
•Support, in close collaboration with the Malaria Operations Officer (MOO) various aspects of team administration as needed, such as internal communications and the preparation and review of quarterly/annual workplans, budgets, and donor reports.
•Oversee the preparations of briefs, case studies, and other documentation synthesizing program results and lessons learned;
•Drive the development and execution of robust quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify priority interventions and then assess their impact;

Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications
•Proven ability to manage the implementation of complex projects with remote teams;
•Exceptional leadership potential and strategic development skills, ability to identify and pursue high-impact strategies in complex, uncertain and evolving environments;
•Exceptional analytical (quantitative and qualitative) and communication (written and verbal) skills, including the ability to communicative effectively with people of varied professional and cultural backgrounds;
•Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently, self-motivate, and propose and implement new initiatives;
•Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities;
•Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, limited-structure, high-pressure, multicultural environment;
•Ability to absorb and synthesize a broad range of information, including technical information regarding malaria control and elimination;
•Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills;
•High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
•Minimum 5 years professional experience.
•Experience working and communicating with government officials and multilateral organizations;

Preferred qualifications
•Content knowledge of malaria, public health, and/or supply chain issues
•Experience living and working in Africa
•Proficiency in French
•Experience working in the private sector
•Advanced degree in management, public health, or other relevant field
