JRS social workers will work with refugees in Kakuma refugee camp to assess their specific needs and monitor and evaluate their progress.
Responsibilities include:
Interview clients to understand their situations, needs and strengthsDevelop a database for all persons with specific needs within Kakuma refugee campLiaise with law enforcement agencies and other partners to address cases of abuse or neglectHelp improve the situations of vulnerable clients by recommending adjustment to their health care, lifestyles or housingAssess clients referred directly to him/ herProvide psychological first aid to clients when necessaryEnsure that clients' records are kept up to date and that the principle of confidentiality is adhered toMeet regularly with the programme coordinators and report progress and challenges of persons with specific needsIdentify and develop an understanding of clients' problemsRefer persons with specific needs to service providing agencies, follow up on referrals and evaluate the impact of the intervention offeredCollaborate with Counselling Coordinator in conducting needs assessment, reaching out to partner agencies, identifying training needs of focal persons and specific groups within Kakuma camp, developing new training modules and assisting with the facilitation of the weekly in-service trainingBe actively involved in advocacy on behalf of refugeesQualifications and experience
Undergraduate degree/Diploma in psychology, counselling, social work or related fieldAt least two years practical working experience in community service and social workExperience in managing teamsAbility to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.Ability to work sensitively with refugee population of different ethnic background and/or demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalised communitiesExcellent communication skills in English (written and oral) and good knowledge of MS word/OfficeHow to apply:To apply, please see the job posting on the Jesuit Refugee Service Eastern Africa website: http://www.jrsea.org/RecruitDetail.cfm?CID=156
