Health Strat is a medical and health systems technical support institution seeking a suitably qualified
individual to fill the post of Finance Officer.
Job Title: Finance Officer
Reports To: Head of Finance
Department: Finance
Location: Head Office, Nairobi
Finance Officer Job Purpose
To assist the Head of Finance in management of the Finance function in order to ensure that all organizational, donor and legal requirements are met
Primary Responsibilities
Processing of Payments
Prepare and process payments as necessary in a timely manner.
Ensuring remittance of statutory deductions within stipulated time. The statutory deductions include PAYE, NHIF and W/H taxes
Recording of transactions
Ensuring transactions are processed into the financial management system in a timely manner
Passing of journals as necessary Management of Cash and Bank balances
Ensuring that there is sufficient funds both in cash and bank to meet daily needs of the organization Management of travel/ programme advances
Ensuring all travel advances issued are liquidated as per policy
Review, follow up and resolve all queries related to travel advance liquidations
Reporting
Preparation and dispatch of donor reports as per agreed timelines
Assist the Head of Finance in preparation of internal reports for management and other stakeholders
Preparation of VAT reports where applicable for submission to donors as per agreed timelines
Budget preparation and management
Assist the Head of Finance and Program management teams in budgets preparation and management
Disseminate Budget / Expenditure reports to Program staff on a monthly basis
Reconciliation
Prepare bank reconciliation statements on a monthly basis as per agreed timelines
Perform other reconciliations e.g. creditors, debtors, travel advances, payroll liability accounts
Maintenance of Financial Records
Ensuring all financial records are maintained, properly filed and safely stored
Participation and representation
Represent the Finance Department in procurement committee meetings
Represent Finance in meetings with other stakeholders both internal and external including partners’
meetings
Audit
Participate in the organization’s audit by preparation of audit schedules, providing necessary documentsfor audit and responding to queries
Other duties
Act as a bank agent e.g collecting petty cash, cheque books and presenting instructions
Supervise and provide mentorship to Finance intern(s)
Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications for Finance Jobs in Kenya
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management or Finance)
Professional Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant
Experience:
Knowledge of Financial Management Software e.g. QuickBooks
3-5 years’ experience in a similar role
