Assistant General Manager Vacancy in Nairobi Kenya - Popular Open-Air Restaurant




Our client is a well-known open-air restaurant within Nairobi, that

specializes in a wide variety of barbecued meat, and famous for their

game meat.
 



The restaurant has a night club on the premises

with a capacity of over 2,500, as well as an internet cafe, playground,

and six bars. 



The restaurant which is a popular tourist

destination, holds large events, concerts with local and international

artists, entertains and dines very high profile celebrities and

dignitaries.
 



To support their current staff needs, we are seeking applications from suitable candidates to fill the following position:
 



Assistant General Manager
 


 


This position reports to the General Manager (GM) and supervises Managers, and all departmental heads. 



The role holder assists the GM in running the operational functions of the unit, by maximizing the financial performance and guest satisfaction whilst adhering to service standards and operating procedures
 



Responsibilities:


  • Assists the GM with directing and coordinating the departmental objectives in line with the unit’s business objectives, whilst adhering to the service standards and operating procedures.

  • Participates in developing and implementing annual/long-term plans and budgets.

  • Assists in the approval of the manning guides, budgets and general operating procedures of departments under his supervision, monitors revenues, operating departments’ costs and provides corrective measures.

  • Receives, investigates, acts and follows up upon complaints from guests and employees ensuring quality is maintained.

  • Participates in on-going inspections throughout the unit to assure cleanliness, maintenance, safety and adherence to service and operating standards.

  • Works with the General Manager, the Human Resources Department and Department Heads on training activities, cross exposure programs to ensure staff development.

  • Maintains good relationships with top corporate customers and regular guest contacts, meets and receive V.I.Ps in the absence of the General Manager.

  • Attend meetings; write reports and memos and other administrative duties including, annual staff medical check-up, stock monitoring/control, unit hygiene, developing and maintaining up to-date emergency, safety and evacuation procedures and training all staff, in-charge of operations and management of Tamarind Kitchens.

  • Promotes team work and cohesion amongst staff and ensures that all members of staff are treated fairly at all times.

  • Works closely with the workshop to ensure that the unit is kept in excellent state of repair and maintenance.

  • Works closely with the F&B Controller to ensure that the operating equipment and returnable empties are controlled as per SOPs.


Requirements / Competencies


  • Degree or Diploma in Hotel Management or equivalent in a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years management experience in a recognized hotel or restaurant chain.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Possess strong assessment and decision making skills; outstanding ability to influence and build relationships internally with externally

  • Expert level ability in identifying and resolving problems in a timely effective manner.

  • Excellent organization and planning skills

  • Ability to develop others

  • Ability to display a high degree of professionalism and integrity

  • Performance driven individual, hands-on, creative, reliable, emotionally intelligent and a leader with passion for this service industry.

  • Knowledge of a foreign language a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Micros and other hospitality IT systems
