Business Partner to Brand and Regional R&D Foods with Expertise in Nutrition management:


The Foods Category in Africa has a significant growth agenda with Nutrition playing a key role from a category strategy perspective. This roleplays a key part in contributing to this growth agenda by shaping and driving the Nutrition agenda for Africa Foods in line with the Africa Foods Category Strategy Growth plan and the Nutrition and Health Strategy.


A primary responsibility in the short and medium term will be to collaborate with Brand to build the Social Mission for Foods working together with the Africa Hygiene and Nutrition Social Mission Director.


Based on local market insights this role also manages Nutrition risks and opportunities concerning portfolio, claims, and deploys centrally developed Nutrition communication packages / initiatives.


Considering the predominant Africa agenda, this role will require broad global Nutrition network and relevant Developing & Emerging markets experience on nutrition behaviour change working in an African context.


Nutrition Manager Job Main Accountabilities:

Shapes and leads the regional Nutrition Agenda for Foods (across category) Africa in strategic partnership with the Africa Hygiene and Nutrition Social Mission Director and with the Africa Category and Cluster leadership team.

Understands the Foods global and regional category strategy and Nutrition & Health environment (policies, consumers, markets, competitors, health influencers) and shapes the African Foods Nutrition agenda based on the new Nutrition & Health strategy working with global and regional R&D and the Brand teams.

Lead and review Nutrition advocacy strategy for key brands that ensures that key Nutrition stakeholders are involved

Design, execute and evaluate the nutrition behaviour change programs that are scientifically based.

Oversee to the claims cogeneration process ensuring identification of risk / opportunities and the alignment with the Regional R&D and Brand teams

Proactively manages associated risks of centrally agreed claims by creating a local support for our claims, preparing spokespeople to deal with external questions and by monitoring issues and timely involving relevant stakeholders.

Responsible for ensuring that that all Nutrition & Health communication materials are compliant with local regulations in the Region.

Proactively manages external African stakeholders and partners with respect to development in the nutrition arena

Adapts and deploys centrally developed Nutrition communication approach and materials for both local “health influencers” (experts, health care professionals, NGOs, GOs, media, social networks and customers) and local consumers aimed at influencing local consumer behaviour to create demand for Unilever products in an effective way.

Accountable for Nutrition related local communications for health influencers, media, consumers, and work with PR and Comms agencies to ensure that content is sound scientifically.

Managing Nutrition Assistants and building their nutrition capabilities and maintaining a talent pipeline

Business partnering and stakeholder management which includes stakeholders such as Country Chairmen, Brand Development and

Brand Building Directors and senior external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Relevant Experience for Nutrition Manager Job


Preference will be given to candidates with extensive relevant experience working within an African context

At least 8 years or more of relevant working experience ina relevant discipline,such as nutrition & health programing in FMCG preferably within Developing & Emerging Markets.

Significant experience on communication (public health), PR and Regulatory with a strong external network in Africa.

Business understanding, planning and implementation

Desirable Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or other relevant discipline.

Experience in risk management

Business acumen and strategic thinking

Stakeholder management & partnerships experience

Spokesperson and ability to give high profile external talks on behalf of Unilever Africa
