Overview


Biogas Power Holdings EA Ltd (BPHEAL) operates in close proximity to and with Kilifi Plantations Ltd which is one of the leading agricultural farms in Kenya located within Kilifi County. Kilifi Plantations was established in 1920 as a sisal plantation. It was privately bought in 1963 and today remains an ongoing agricultural business. Currently Kilifi Plantations consist of a leading national dairy herd milking 400 animals daily producing 3,000 litres a day. The farm also produces 350 tonnes annually of sisal fibre of export quality. Kilifi Plantations is looking for Technical Advisor to join a vibrant technical team to facilitate smooth running of operations within the Biogas Plant and Workshop.


The Role:


The Advisor will spend 30% of his/her time at the Biogas Plant with the primary role being to develop grid connection to the current Biogas Power Plant meeting all the legal and regulatory requirements as laid down by MoE, ERC, NEMA and other bodies. This will include an expanded plant design and installation. 70% of the time will be spent at the workshop playing mainly an oversight role to ensure that machinery and equipment are run optimally. The person also needs to have a passion for horticulture.


Biogas Duties include

• Perform quality control visits on site, provide training and coaching to biogas operators.

• Assist in the development and standardization of biogas plant design and appliances; advice on issues related to it.

• Assist in the development of capacities of private technicians in becoming credible construction companies and cooperatives committed for the expansion and development of biogas plants within Kenya.

• Supervise construction sites, oversee the selection of appropriate plant locations constructed and timely construction of the right standard and quality biogas plants.

• Assist to oversee the procurement and delivery of the right material and equipment to biogas construction sites.

• Oversee the promotion of proper and timely after sales and maintenance services by designated masons and technicians to commissioned biogas plants and ensure the provision of immediate trouble shooting and maintenance services and advice when requested by biogas owners.

• Cooperate with the training and extension officer, marketing and promotion officers and with other units in facilitating the construction of reliable biogas digesters.

• Achieve other activities directed by the immediate supervisor.


Workshop Duties include


• Ensure top class service schedules and maintenance of all equipment

• Personally responsible for making sure all work completed is checked and signed off

• Responsible for check and test all equipment that has been serviced or repaired

• Assist in overseeing the fiscal discipline of the department,

• Assist the Workshop Coordinator with the specialized service, repair, rehabilitation and installation of equipment and components by tender and sub-contracts.

• Assist Workshop Coordinator in the assessment and appraisal of machinery for rehabilitation whilst ensuring that systems are run efficiently

• Assist the Workshop Coordinator with the Analysis of training requirements and in future develop training programs for external clients.

• Assist HODs in calculating and monitoring fuel efficiency in vehicles

• Projection and analysis of long term spare parts requirements.

• Assist the Workshop Coordinator in ensuring that the best possible suppliers are identified in terms of service, quality and price

• Place orders timely and correctly and return any sub-standard stock orders;

• Ensure that stock received is checked against the delivery note, invoice and original order form;

• Ensure that that safety clothing and equipment is worn as necessary

• Ensure that all safety guards are used on all relevant equipment

• Ensuring re-order levels are maintained

• Strengthen internal controls


Horticulture Duties


• Develop and expand the horticulture business in conjunction with the Horticulture Manager

• Increase awareness of KP horticulture products within Kilifi and its environs.


PERSON SPECIFICATIONS


Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Instrumentation and Control Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or similar qualifications


Professional Qualifications

• Diploma in automotive engineering from a recognized institution

• Valid driving license will be an added advantage

• Practical Managerial Experience will be stressed


Experience

A minimum of 5 years relevant experience

A background in Agricultural industry is highly desirable

Health & Safety knowledge

Entrepreneur skills in the agriculture sector will be an added advantage

Salary details

A salary of KShs 100,000 will be provided. Housing within the plantation will also be provided. A bonus structure based on profits made will also be discussed.
