The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and universal humanitarian principles.


The ICRC"s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution"s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC"s delegations in East Africa, the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa.


The ICRC Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced & highly motivated individual to fill the position of;


Armed and Security Forces Liaison Officer


FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:**


· Develop, build and maintain a network of interlocutors within the Armed Forces, Police and Security Forces in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti;


· Identify and prioritize needs for dissemination, training and potential for integration of IHL and IHRL;


· Plan, organize and carry out basic courses and general operational disseminations for Armed forces personnel on international humanitarian law;


· Actively promote the co-operation between ICRC and the Armed Forces, Police and Security Forces in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti.


REQUIREMENTS:


· University degree in law, international relations or other relevant field;


· Extensive military experience may be considered in lieu;


· 3 years relevant professional experience in practising law, international relations, humanitarian affairs, Police or Military, or similar fields;


· Very good knowledge of international humanitarian law and human rights law is a must;


· Knowledge of French would be an added advantage.
