Provision of Management and Marketing Support to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMES) in the Dairy Sector by Management and Marketing Firms

2.0 Objective: Technoserve is currently implementing a USAID funded program working with dairy businesses in Kitui Makueni and Taita Taveta Counties with a view to helping small holder dairy farmers increase incomes by supporting interconnected market systems that respond to increased milk productivity. 

The program is facilitating management and marketing firms to provide services to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) with the aim of transforming them into successful entities that are capable of operating acceptable levels of profitability, solvency, liquidity and cash flow. 

It is expected that these enterprises will continue to engage the management and marketing firms for sustained growth. 

Technoserve invites interested management and marketing firms to forward their expression of interest for them to be prequalified into a database of suppliers to be used in the regions stated above.

3.0 Skills and Experience Required
 

A. Management Firms

1. Willingness to work with rural businesses in Kitui, Makueni and Taita Taveta Counties


2. Refocus the thinking of dairy enterprises (milk aggregators, processors and milk traders) commercial enterprise and building strong relationships with milk suppliers


3. Experience in undertaking business diagnostics and developing feasible business turn around strategies for dairy enterprises (dairy Cooperatives, processors and traders)


4. Willingness to develop reasonably-priced service offerings for dairy firms.


5. Willingness to provide management contracting services, developing business growth and turn around strategies for dairy enterprises.

B. Marketing Firms

1. Re-focus the activities of the dairy agrovet stores towards commercial enterprise and customer (i.e. farmer) needs


2. Introduce retail and distribution models that promote good quality dairy inputs and services for rural small holder farmers in Kitui, Makueni and Taita Taveta Counties


3. Create a feedback channel at the agrovet shop for information to pass between the dairy farmers, and dairy agrovet


4. Put in place retail strategies and tools for agrovets on shop layout, product management, customer service, and marketing activities adapted to the local environment


5. Willingness to develop reasonably-priced service offerings for dairy firms.


6. Experience in working with small and medium Enterprises preferably in the Dairy sector.
