inSupply Health is headquartered in Nairobi, with an office in Dar Es Salaam and is affiliated with JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI). Our team of dynamic local consultants works closely with public and private sector clients to design optimized, responsive and resilient supply chain systems that deliver essential health products such as antimalarial and HIV medications, vaccines and contraceptives in complex settings. We pioneer innovative approaches by taking proven methodologies from the commercial sector to adapt them for the context, but also co-create solutions with our clients so they can own, implement and continuously improve their systems independently in the long term.
Overview:
inSupply is searching for an Advisor - Capacity Building/QI, based in Nairobi and willing to travel and work with teams and partners in the region. The ideal candidate is passionate about problem-solving with respect to health system barriers, capacity building, and championing and evolving continuous quality improvement approaches. S/he is interested and willing to learn about a variety of content areas including supply chains, health systems, monitoring, learning and evaluation, and market development. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, creative, flexible, a critical thinker and focused on finding innovative solutions to complex problems. S/he is team-oriented, has experience in mentoring and building the capacity of staff and partners, and has experience managing and partnering with public sector clients for the uptake of new approaches and strategies. Responsibilities:
The Advisor - Capacity Building/Quality Improvement (QI) will play a pivotal role as the “go to” resource at inSupply for the IMPACT team approach, accountable for ensuring that the IMPACT team approach evolves and is implemented across contexts consistently with inSupply’s overall strategy. The role entails actively engaging with internal team members, and national and subnational level teams participating in QI initiatives. S/he will have a vital responsibility in evolving our design and implementation approaches to enhance the effectiveness of IMPACT teams at the national and subnational levels in both Kenya and Tanzania, drawing from recent human-centered design research, field learnings, and past experiences. S/he will be accountable for expanding the reach of IMPACT teams to regions/counties, district/council/sub-counties and health facility levels, ensuring a core strategy to the approach that is complemented by country and context-specific adaptations. Key focus areas of the role will be to cultivate an overall grasp of core characteristics intrinsic to the effectiveness and institutionalization of IMPACT teams regardless of adaptations for context, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing across the IMPACT teams, and working across inSupply to support expansion and reach of IMPACT teams.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop a strong understanding of IMPACT teams as they exist now, their history and evolution, gaps and opportunities for improvement
- Work collaboratively across the inSupply team to lead the development of design and implementation guidelines, training materials and SOPs that ensure a standard approach to including core aspects of the IMPACT team approach as well as the flexibility for context and country-specific adaptations, incorporating the following needs to:
- Strengthen IMPACT teams at the sub-county/council and health facility levels based on field learnings and previous experiences within the context of expansion.
- Scale IMPACT teams across higher and lower levels (county, sub–county, health facility and community levels) using insights from HCD field research and previous experience.
- Support in developing and updating materials for IMPACT teams' continuous training, coaching, and learning sessions
- Participate in strategic and tactical planning for inSupply’s quality improvement programs
- Establish internal processes and systems within inSupply so that all existing and new team members are continuously trained and well versed on the updated approach to IMPACT teams even as it evolves
- Support the institutionalization of the IMPACT team approach at different levels using multiple strategies including but not limited to:
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange among team members and stakeholders to cultivate a culture of learning and knowledge transfer.
- Develop and implement strategies to capture and disseminate lessons learned and best practices from current and previous experiences to enhance team performance
- Support project teams across both countries to implement current and new prototypes and adaptations to the IMPACT team approach to enhance effectiveness and institutionalization, ensuring consistency with the core approach despite country specific adaptations
- Work with MLE domain team members and project teams to enhance data visibility and data use within and across IMPACT teams, including:
- Develop and implement systems, policies, and procedures for performance measurement data collection and analysis
- Support adaptive learning with a focus on the access and use of data for actions and decisions by teams at all levels
- Collect and summarize performance data, identify improvement opportunities, and present findings to the organization.
- Document milestones, lessons and experience drawn from the implementation of the IMPACT teams approach and participate in sharing it through publications and conferences
- Collaborate and build relationships with government institutions, NGOs, donors, and other partners.
- Represent inSupply Health projects at stakeholder fora and contribute to working groups.
- Participate in routine technical calls and meetings, communicate and coordinate with team members, and provide detailed meeting notes.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, integrating human-centered design, adaptive learning, and other relevant approaches.
- Use instructional design techniques to develop custom SOPs, curriculum, and facilitators' guides.
- Support the maintenance and updating of content in the inSupply Learning Management System (LMS).
- Mentor peers and junior staff members.
- Participate in new business development opportunities and contribute to marketing efforts.
- Embrace growth-focused goal setting and participate in learning activities.
- Support the modeling of inSupply's culture, values, and standards under the supervision of the Senior Advisor.
- Identify opportunities for internal and external knowledge management, document processes, successes, and lessons learned.
- Travel locally, regionally, and internationally as needed to support project objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned by the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
- A Master’s degree in Public Health or a health-related field.
Experience:
- At least Eight years of work experience in global health or development, with a minimum of Five years working in and implementing within the Ministry of Health systems.
- Experience in leading Quality Improvement teams in the public health sector to achieve desired outputs or results.
- Experience building relationships with a variety of partners working in both the private and public sector in Kenya is required. Experience working with such partners in other countries in the region is highly desirable.
- Documented experience in designing and facilitating competency-based learning events including classroom style training, on-the-job training, online learning and blended learning/flipped classroom models of capacity building,
- Experience in using process facilitation techniques for meeting planning and facilitation desirable.
- Experience with client engagement management and partnerships with members of ministries of health, donor agencies and private foundations.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills, including the ability to energize, motivate, and support staff, consultants, advisors, and partners from different cultures and time zones.
- A proven ability to work as a part of a team, but be self-managing of own time and results, and to be a proactive and clear communicator.
- High levels of personal and professional ethics and integrity are required. Ability to assess and manage risks and strong customer service skills are strongly preferred.
- Excellent and proactive oral and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills (both analytical and problem-solving) and the ability to distill complex ideas into simple language. The ability to write concise, clear reports a strong requirement.
- Experience with gender programming will be an added advantage
- Ability to travel 40% time, locally, regionally, and internationally.
- Ability to use cloud-based productivity, project management, and database apps — specifically Google Suite, Miro, Zoom, CRM platform, and Slack.
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
