Nuru International Agriculture Fellow Career in Kenya

Overview: Seventy percent of the world’s extreme poor live in rural areas.

Because the rural poor are Nuru’s primary partners, the plan to address the community’s agricultural needs will be central to the overall solution.

The Agriculture Fellow will partner with the community to identify the community’s agricultural needs and design sustainable solutions to meet those needs.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Ensure the Agriculture Program is truly sustainable and scalable
Train and mentor the Nuru Kenya Agriculture Program team
Empower local leaders in the Agriculture Program to continually take more and more ownership of the program
Achieve pre-determined seasonal goals
Manage program budget efficiently to meet pre-determined goals
Manage recruiting of new farmers and scale to new communities within the Agriculture Program expansion framework
Identify the agricultural needs within partner communities
Develop and implement agricultural interventions to meet the needs of Nuru’s farmers: access to farm inputs; education in agricultural techniques; cash crops; organic fertilizers; and linking farmers’ products with fair markets in order to fight chronic hunger and facilitate income generation in partner communities
Help to develop new monitoring tools to evaluate impact of the Agriculture Program
Refine existing program metrics to improve accuracy in its reflection of the community poverty level and operational effectivenessSpecific Skills and Attributes (additional to the General Requirements for the Nuru Fellows Program):
Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Business or Agriculture, MA preferred
At least 2 – 3 years experience in project management
At least 1 – 2 years of creating and sustaining agricultural solutions for the poor
Prior experience living and working in the Developing World
Solid quantitative skills and experience with Excel
High commitment to organization’s mission and theory of change
Strong work ethic
Strong leadership and team building experience
Ability to do crisis management and rapid, innovative problem solving in uncertain environmentsApplication Process:
