Our client, Basecamp Explorer (BCE) was initiated in Norway in 1997 and is today a World leading developer and operator of sustainable tourism / ecotourism destinations.
During its 13 - year existence more that 10 profiled ecotourism products (camps, lodges, hotels, boats) have been developed in four different countries, ranging from the equator to the high Arctic (Kenya, India, France and Svalbard).
Basecamp Explorer Kenya Ltd (BCEK) — a subsidiary to BCE - was the first eco-destination to be established within the Basecamp Group. BCEK is today the holding company to several ecotourism operations in the Masai Mara and on Lamu.
BCEK and Norfund (Norway’s investment fund for developing countries) have jointly developed a growth strategy for BCEK and with a focus on our Masai Mara venture, where currently 44
tourism beds are in operation divided over 3 units (2 ecolodges and one mobile camp).
The platform for growth and expansion in Masai Mara is tied to the development of a newly established private conservancy—the MARA NABOISHO Wildlife Conservancy (20,000 hectares at present).
This unique ecosystem is located back-to-back to the Masai Mara National Reserve and has a remarkably well-stocked wildlife population already in its first year of operation. Presently BCEK operates the Wilderness lodge and Dorobo bush camo inside the conservancy.
