Tax Consultant Job Summary
The Tax Analyst role is a fixed term contract role the purpose of which is to assist the Legal Entity Controller in extracting, analyzing, collating or otherwise preparing responses to ongoing KRA audit as well as routine requests for information from KRA. Additionally, the incumbent will also be exposed to baseline tasks, routines, and processes that ensure continuous tax compliance and tax risk mitigation
Key Duties/Responsibilities
Tax Planning, Mitigation & Compliance – 60%
Preparation of Quarterly tax computations for income tax and deferred tax and related journal vouchers for posting into the ledger
computation and monitoring of VAT apportionment status
Prepare provisional tax computation and return for review by LEC
Prepare annual tax calculation, return and accompanying tax schedules for review by LEC
Maintain listing schedule of all provisional tax /additional assessment payments made to Revenue Authorities with supporting documentation
Support monthly reconciliation of tax related GL accounts and follow up of reconciling items
Ensure correct categorization of payments made to Revenue Authorities for all taxes by reviewing Revenue Authority statement of accounts and following up with Revenue Authorities on errors identified
Extract information from SAP, archives and liaise with BU departments and GFO teams to obtain supporting information required for tax audits
Support the LEC in coordinating and managing tax audits by Revenue Authorities for the legal entities under scope
Analyze, compile and present supporting information required by routine revenue authorities information requests in collaboration with Corporate Tax and
Tax Advisors
preparation of monthly VAT Computation and withholding tax computations, Return and payment requests and prepare related journal vouchers for posting into the ledger
Support in the Quarterly update of the Deferred Tax listing of permanent and temporary difference for all balance sheet accounts
Follow with revenue authorities on tax clearance certificates by completing and submitting the relevant on-line forms
Prepare annual unconsolidated tax returns to Corporate Tax
Research on and respond to ad hoc tax queries and related assignments as may be allocated by the LEC and respond to queries from the Business clients.
Operational Control and Compliance – 20%
Prepare various reports and disclosures for submission to Corporate as per the company policies and procedures on a timely basis
Work with LEC and Legal to close / liquidate any dormant legal entities in the jurisdiction
Preparation of Form 230 for review by the LEC
Preparation of Anti Bribery submissions as per SPP 2.8 for review by the LEC
Support internal and external audit process (CAD)
Accounting and Reporting – 20%
Support LEC in the management of statutory audit and preparation of Annual Financial statements.
Support the LEC in the determination of forecasting of Fees & Commisssions and tracking of various operating expenses on line with the business plan
Collaborate with the General Ledger Team in the timely preparation of accurate balance sheet reconciliations
Support the LEC in the monthly review of the Trial Balances of the various entities for consideration by management in assessing the Risks & Opportunities
Lead various projects and tasks as assigned by the LEC
