General Manager Vacancy in Nairobi, Kenya - Popular Open-Air Restaurant




Our client is a well-known open-air restaurant within Nairobi, that specializes in a wide variety of barbecued meat, and famous for their game meat.
 



The restaurant has a night club on the premises with a capacity of over 2,500, as well as an internet cafe, playground, and six bars. 



The restaurant which is a popular tourist destination, holds large events, concerts with local and international artists, entertains and dines very high profile celebrities and dignitaries.
 



To support their current staff needs, we are seeking applications from suitable candidates to fill the following position:
 



General Manager
 


 


This position reports to the Managing Director with responsibility for the general operations of all units, including all managers and departmental heads. 



The GM ensures financial performance and guest satisfaction is maximized whilst adhering to service standards and operating procedures.




Key Responsibilities:


  • Directs the work of the department heads under his/her supervision by coordinating the departmental objectives in line with the unit’s business objectives.

  • Works with the Managing Director/Directors in developing and implementing long-term and annual plans and budgets.

  • Approves the manning guides, budgets and general operating procedures for the departments under his/her supervision, monitors revenues and costs of the operating departments and provides corrective measures.

  • Receives, investigates, acts and follows up upon complaints from guests and employees ensuring the highest satisfaction from all sides.

  • Participates in on-going inspections throughout the unit to assure cleanliness, maintenance, safety and adherence to service and operating standards.

  • Coordinates together with Human Resources Department and Department Heads on training activities, cross exposure programs to ensure staff development.

  • Maintains good relationships with top accounts customers and regular guest contacts, meets and receives V.I.P upon arrival to ensure identification of guests needs.

  • Obtains all the business licenses required for the operation of the unit and ensures that the unit is operated in conformity with all the statutory regulations in force.

  • Preparation and execution of the annual sales and marketing plan together with the sales and marketing department

  • Accomplishes a set of administrative duties such as leading and attending meetings, writing reports and memos and other specific duties related to the job function.

  • Acts as the lead public relations officer of the unit by cultivating and maintaining good relationship with the local community, police, county government officials, national government officers and representatives of trade associations, etc.

  • Promotes team work and cohesion amongst staff and ensures that all members of staff are treated fairly at all times.


Requirements:


  • Degree or Diploma in Hotel Management or equivalent in a related field.

  • 10 years management experience from a recognized hotel or restaurant chain.

  • Experience with multi-branded properties, preferably International hotel brands.

  • Strong personality with evidence of great interpersonal and communication skills

  • Possess strong assessment and decision making skills; outstanding ability to influence and build relationships internally with externally

  • Expert level ability in identifying and resolving problems in a timely effective manner.

  • Excellent organization and planning skills

  • Ability to develop others

  • Ability to display a high degree of professionalism and integrity

  • Performance driven individual, hands-on, creative, reliable, emotionally intelligent and a leader with passion for this service industry.

  • Knowledge of a foreign language a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Micros and other hospitality IT systems
