Environmental Safety Health Officer
Level: Middle Management
Location: Based out of Nairobi. May be required to travel to other field locations in Kenya / Tanzania / Uganda and other countries when required.

Duties and Responsibilities
To conduct health and safety induction practice to employees and subcontractors.
To conduct safety inspection/audit on workplaces, tools and behavior.
To deliver environmental, safety and health trainings to employees.
To conduct workplace risk and environmental aspect assessments, safety meetings and other safety and health related tasks.
To report workplace hazards and correcting.
Develop protocols, policies and standards relating to Occupational Safety and Health
To advise and assist all personnel on the project implementation in compliance with relevant legislations and ISO International Standards Compliance
To organize and carry accident, dangerous occurrence and near miss investigation and the production of reports detailing underlying causes, conclusions and recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
To assessing the health and environmental impacts associated with the implementation of the project at site.
To implement a system that meets requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 22001 & OHSAS 8001 International Standards.
To manage Safety, Health & Environmental issues in compliance of Industry standards, client requirement and relevant statutes.
To improve safety performance on continual basis.
To achieve accident fee project completion.
To educate & train the field staff how to handle/ deal adverse situations
To monitor & maintain safety gear & equipment.
To create safe work environment by hazard identification & its control, to ensure 100% occupational health and safety issues.
Prepares Monthly, Quarterly reports related to ESH and ensure submission of quarterly reports to the Directorate of Safety and Health ( DOSH)
Manage all top – down communication and ESH related escalations.
In coordination with the Operations and Maintenance Managers, formulates emergency response scenarios to be simulated in monthly response drills.
Principal Accountability
Ensure safety guidelines are fully followed,
Safe working environment is provided,
Required training is imparted before start of any new project,
Implements the company’s EHS policy to ensure the organization’s standards and quality requirements are consistently achieved.
Reviews local legislation to keep up to date with requirements and corresponds with regulatory agencies such as National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the Directorate Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS).
Maintains record of all EHS compliance permits, licenses and certifications.
Qualification & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Science related field.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Environmental Health and Safety Supervisory Role and has worked previously in a manufacturing company dealing with FMCG.
Additional qualification in Occupational Safety and Health and Environment an added advantage.
Strong computer skills. Excellent written and verbal skills.
Good understanding of data management and data analysis.
Team player and able to build and maintain relationships both internal and external parties.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Skills in Office Management, International travel arrangements and archiving
