Our client, an international NGO in quality reproductive health care and family planning wishes to recruit a Clinical Anesthetist to ensure effective clinical teamwork and will be responsible for high quality frontline service delivery to our clients
Duties and Responsibilities
Client treatment:
- Administer anaesthetic or sedation during medical procedures, using local, intravenous, spinal, or caudal methods.
- Monitor patient before, during, and after anesthesia and counteract adverse reactions or complications.
- Provide and maintain life support and airway management and help prepare patients for emergency surgery.
- Examine patient, obtain medical history, and use diagnostic tests to determine risk during surgical, obstetrical, and other medical procedures.
- Position patient on operating table to maximize patient comfort and surgical accessibility.
- Decide when patients have recovered or stabilized enough to be sent to another room or ward or to be sent home following outpatient surgery.
- Coordinate administration of anaesthetics with surgeons during operation.
- Confer with other medical professionals to determine type and method of anaesthetic or sedation to render patient insensible to pain.
- Coordinate and direct work of nurses, medical technicians, and other health care providers
- Diagnose illnesses, using examinations, tests, and reports.
- Manage anaesthesia related services, coordinating them with other medical activities and formulating plans and procedures.
- Provide medical care and consultation in many settings, prescribing medication and treatment and referring patients for surgery.
- Based on client history, examination, lab test reports and findings and above all client needs, prescribe appropriate drugs
- Perform appropriate procedures (including Intravenous Therapy, implant insertion, IUD insertion, Pap Smear, MVA procedure)
- Ensure responsible follow up and treatment of complications.
- Follow the Kenyan Clinical Guidelines for appropriate management of most conditions and illnesses and also the organization’s approved guidelines
- Conduct follow ups and reports all complications in writing within or before the end of current duty.
- Maintain confidentiality at all levels
- Provide comprehensive client counselling on reproductive health, contraceptive options, anaesthetic procedures and other services.
- Ensure all clients are treated with sensitivity, respect, and consideration. If complaints are raised, to be able to effectively manage and resolve them and to promptly refer to the Team Leader if the client complaint continues or is of a serious magnitude.
- Implement a smooth, efficient client flow to minimize client waiting times.
- Monitor and evaluate client care continuously and recommend improvements as necessary.
Management and accurate documentation of all services rendered
Effective participation and support of the center team both in quality assurance and promotional activities
Skills & Abilities:
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or nursing from a recognised medical training college, with higher diploma in Anaesthesia
- Registered by the Kenya Clinical Officers Council and in possession a valid practice license.
- Practising knowledge of Sexual Reproductive Health is an added advantage
- Proven clinical experience and demonstrable commitment to learn and develop skills
- High regard for confidentiality and demonstrable integrity
- Excellent communicator – both written and spoken
- Commitment to excellent client care and the delivery of client-focused services.
- High level of attention to detail
- High level of professionalism and management of clients
- Team player who accepts constructive criticism and is comfortable with giving constructive criticism.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs
