Job Vacancy: General Manager
The Role: Is responsible for general management of all phases of operations including supplier management and relationship building, sourcing and logistics of all inputs, primary processing, production, engineering, maintenance and product warehousing.
Responsibilities also include recruiting, hiring and training and mentoring personnel and facility/physical plant up-keep and capital improvements.
In addition the position is responsible for annual budget planning and execution.
The position works closely with internal control, farmer management teams, raw material buying teams, logistics, primary processing, production, quality assurance and maintenance teams to increase productivity and profitability within the manufacturing operation of the company.
Key Duties:
- Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the Company.
- Develop regular reports which are professional, concise and clear, to be reviewed by the CEO on a regular basis.
- Communicate effectively with CEO.
- Ability to think strategically and implement critical company initiatives for growth.
- To manage the supply chain which is made up of a large number of smallholder farmers.
- Develop and execute production budgets, including relevant departments accountable to the achievement of budgets
- Establishing production schedules for the production department to ensure goals are met and exceeded, while operating at the highest efficiency possible.
- Work closely with factory and quality assurance personnel to review product quality consistency while monitoring yield rates and wastage to determine trends and areas of improvement.
- Analyze workforce requirements.
- Overall responsibility for ensuring that staffing and competency levels are achieved/exceeded in all aspects of the manufacturing process.
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations managers
- Monitor operation expenses and deploy ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
- Encourage and promote operations in a continuous improvement environment
- Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity
- Work in collaboration with Internal Control, Marketing and Quality Assurance to continuously improve the product quality and develop new markets and products
- Work with the Sourcing Manager to develop and improve supplier relationships for all Plant inputs
- To ensure adherence to all legal, industry and market requirements.
- Maintain primary processing and production equipment and ancillary services
- Maintain plant site security systems.
Key Qualities:
- Ability to communicate effectively across team members and manage the various functional roles within the organization to ensure all team members are meeting their targets.
- Well organized and disciplined in time management
- Has an awareness of the importance of a motivated team and respect for each person"s capabilities and contribution to the organization.
- Decisive, action oriented individual who can communicate effectively with both a rural work force and Directors.
- Strong presentation skills, but sense of humility, as not to alienate employees or suppliers
- Experience with organic and fair trade a plus.
- Experience in training and staff management critical
