Roles and Responsibilities;


  • Prepare annual work plan for the department so as to ensure that all relevant public health concerns are captured.

  • Oversee planning and implementation of public health programs for disease prevention

  • Interpret and ensure enforcement of public health and environmental laws to ensure compliance with national regulations and rules

  • Develop and coordinate follow up of defaulter TB patients to curb its spread

  • Vet and approve infrastructural development plans for safety to prevent accidents due to collapse

  • Inspect work places to ensure occupational safety and health

  • Design or use surveillance tools, such as screening, lab reports, and vital records, to identify health risks.

  • Develop or implement interventions to address behavioral causes of diseases.

  • Direct or manage prevention programs in specialty areas such as occupational, infectious disease, and environmental medicine.

  • Identify groups at risk for specific preventable diseases or injuries for early intervention

  • Prepare preventive health reports including problem descriptions, analyses, alternative solutions, and recommendations

  • Provide information about potential health hazards and possible interventions to the media, the public and government for prevention and control

  • Document or review comprehensive patients’ histories with an emphasis on occupation or environmental risks.

  • Coordinate or integrate the resources of health care institutions, social service agencies, public safety workers, or other organizations to improve the community health.

  • Inspect food premises and food related activities to ensure occupational safety and health

  • Collaborate with other departments in the disposal of hazardous waste to ensure safe disposal

  • Report any notifiable diseases to the national public health office for prompt action to be taken

  • Advise the university on chemicals to be procured for vector control

Key Qualifications & Experience:


  • Bachelor of Public Health or equivalent from a recognized and registered institution

  • At least three (3) years relevant  work experience in a reputable institution

  • Registered with Public Health & Technicians Board.

  • Valid Practice License

  • Computer Literate

  • Able to work under pressure
