Program Officer and PMTCT District Coordinator Jobs in Kenya - ICAP of Columbia University

ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Medical Services to strengthen HIV Care and Treatment services at provincial and district health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Applications are invited for the positions of Program Officer and PMTCT District Coordinator

Location: Resident with frequent travel within Eastern Province

1. Program Officer

Overall Job Function: The officer will plan and perform day-to-day implementation of HIV care and TB/HIV treatment services at facilities

Key Responsibilities:

Planning and implementation of HIV care and treatment services and TB/HIV activities at facilitiesProvide on-going supervision of HIV care and treatment and TB/HIV programsCo-ordinate mentorship of facility staffParticipate in quality assurance/quality improvement of HIV and TB/HIV programsAssist in program monitoring and evaluationPreparation of budgets, work plans, reports and other technical papersMB ChB, or Diploma in MedicineAt least 3 years experience in program planningExperience with HIV/AIDS programmingFamiliarity with district-level health care programs in KenyaClinical experience of HIV medicineStrong supervisory and management skillsAbility to work independently with strong problem-solving skillsTeam player with good verbal and written communication skills2. PMTCT District Coordinator

Overall Job Function:

The Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) District Coordinators will oversee the day-to-day planning and implementation of PMTCT activities within ICAP-supported facilities in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation.

S/he will supervise Nurse Counselors providing PMTCT services at the ICAP-supported facilities within the district and will report to the PMTCT Advisor.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day technical support and supervision of the district PMTCT Program as per national guidelinesAssist with training of health care workers using the national PMTCT curriculumStrengthen referrals and linkages between PMTCT activities and the Comprehensive Care ClinicsOversee Early Infant Diagnosis, care and follow-up of HIV-exposed infantsStrengthen linkages between PMTCT, follow-up of HIV-exposed infants (HEI) and Comprehensive Care ClinicsAssist in the implementation of the monitoring and evaluation for PMTCT and HEIParticipate in district PMTCT meetings
Registered Nurse or Registered Clinical OfficerMore than 3 years experience in the implementation of PMTCT activitiesExperience in training and mentorship of health care workers on PMTCTAll applications including a current CV, telephone number and referees should be addressed to the HR and Administration Manager, ICAP and sent via email to icap.vacancies@gmail.com before 30th November 2011.
