Who We Are: Education Effect Africa (EEA) is a fasting growing Kenyan non-governmental organization focused on providing children living in marginalized areas with high quality education.
Since our inception in 2013, Education Effect Africa has been working with disadvantaged communities living in informal settlements of Nairobi and rural areas of Central, Western and Nyanza regions of Kenya.
Education Effect Africa has secured funding to implement two new infrastructural and educational projects in Kenya: ECD Chanuka! , an early childhood development project in Mbita sub-county and School of Health (SoH), a school water, sanitation and hygiene (SWASH) project in Bungoma sub-county.
The organization is also running a high school scholarship project for students from primary schools located in the informal settlements of Mathare.
Our programs
1. Enhancing access to and quality of education: We focus on sustained, intensive and quality teacher professional development alongside improving and increasing the physical infrastructure of schools. In addition, we also provide scholarships to bright but financially disadvantaged students in areas that we work.
2. Innovation in education: Education Effect Africa promotes active and experiential methods of teaching. We provide teachers and students from marginalized areas with modern sources of knowledge such as Internet resources, computers and educational software.
3. Bridging the digital divide: Access to digital technologies and the ability to benefit from new information and communication tools are a prerequisite of contemporary education. Education Effect Africa has been facilitating the launch of computer laboratories in marginalized areas of Kenya as well as offering ICT trainings to teachers and students.
4. Water, sanitation and health: Education Effect Africa is providing primary schools with hygienic toilets, clean sources of water and hand-washing facilities. Our trainers and facilitators assist the teachers in delivering effective health education classes to children in all grades of primary school.
Job Purpose: Education Effect Africa is actively seeking a qualified and experienced program coordinator who will be responsible for the successful delivery of its programs and establishment of new areas of engagement for the organization.
The program coordinator will also manage a growing program team and work towards building and maintaining good working relationships with partners and donors.
Key Responsibilities
1) Designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on various project activities within EEA programs
- Designing detailed work plans and schedules of projects
- Coordinating both infrastructural and educational components of project implementation
- Managing and providing technical support to the program team (project officers, experts, external consultants and other field staff involved in project implementation)
- Carry out regular field visits to supervise, monitor and evaluate project activities and progress
- Prepare timely donor progress and narrative reports according to their requirements
2) Identifying new areas of engagement for the organization and marching funding opportunities
- Develop new interventions and strategies for EEA in response to emerging developments challenges and needs identified in consultation with beneficiary communities
- Manage the overall development, implementation and evaluation of programs in achievement of Education Effect Africa mission, including developing new areas of focus
- Application of grants, request for proposals and identifying other sources of raising funds to support the organization’s programs
3) Establishing and maintaining good working relationships in support of the work of Education Effect Africa
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships and good working relationships with relevant government departments, partners, donors, beneficiaries and other stakeholders
- Represent Education Effect Africa in meetings and other events with stakeholders as it’s spokesperson in matters relating to programs
4) Manage the program staff and ensure their well- being and professional development
- In liaison with the CEO and/or administration manager, take part in the organization’s continuous staff performance review of the program team
- Provide day to day line management to the program staff
- Chair project/program staff meetings
- Ensure compliance of program staff to EEA policies and procedures and donor requirements of project implementation
5) Ensure effective financial management of programs in liaison with the Finance Manager
- Take part in the budgeting and financial forecasting process of the organization
- Carry out monthly budget variance analysis to ensure execution of project activities within respective budgets
- Review the existing financial reporting systems to ensure consistent accurate and reliable financial information
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of donor financial report and adherence to donor requirements
6) Communication of the organization work
- Ensure timely communication with all relevant stakeholders of Education Effect Africa programs both internal and external
- Ensure that program activities are well documented and shared with relevant departments in the organization
- Maintain and update external communication of program activities on the organization’s website and official social media
Education, knowledge, technical skills, experience and desirable requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, community development or related field. Professional education in project management and/or monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage
- Minimum of three years proven experience in project management in non-governmental organizations, preferably those working in the education sector
- Proven work experience in managing construction works in donor funded projects
- Proven experience in budgeting, donor reporting, financial and project management of multiple grants
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills in English and Swahili
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word-processing, e-mail, Excel)

Contract and Level of Involvement
- Full time, one year contract starting from 1st April 2015- 31st March 2016. The one year contract is inclusive of a three month probation period. The contract is subject to extension depending on the performance of the successful candidate and availability of funds.
- 50% of the work will involve travel to project sites
