How I Got a Job With Jamii Bora Bank

Recently, Career Point Kenya recently caught up with a former Jamii Bora employee who until his departure used to work as a sales person in the Personal Banking and Mortgage Department.
How did you get the sales job at Jamii Bora?
I applied for the personal and mortgage banker position through their website. At the time I was a Sales Rep with another leading bank in Kenya. I was invited for an interview after a day.
Was there an interview and what can you recall about it?
Yes there was an interview which was conducted by a panel of 3 people .I was asked questions about my experiences and how familiar I was with mortgage and personal banking products.
What is the salary range for a sales job at Jamii Bora?
It’s between 50-80K depending on your experience
What major challenges did you face in your line of work?
There was much pressure to hit targets, working long hours sometimes up to 8pm
Would you Define Jamii Bora as one of the best employers in Kenya
Yes, it offers one the opportunity for growth and has one of the best medical covers. They also it has mostly youthful employees btw 25-40yrs
What did you like the most about Jamii Bora as an employee?
Interaction with employee. In fact I remember one time the CEO calling me just to say “hi”.
And what didn’t you like?
Staff facilities i.e staff loans interest rates are bit unfavorable; e.g for a personal staff loan interest rate is 15%
Also staff turnover was a bit high; at my branch alone I witnessed 3 different branch managers
What your advice to young job seekers hoping to land a job with Jamii Bora?
That they keep checking constantly at their website for latest jobs, internships, tenders etc.
What’s your advice to the top management at the bank?
To improve on staff welfare and also reduce on customer charges to attract more customers
I would also advice them to create more job opportunities by expanding to other regions of the country like Garrisa, Kisii, Kericho, Narok
