Country General Manager Opportunity with an International CompanyOur client is a regional company originally from South Africa committed to sales (wholesale), marketing and distribution of outstanding wines.
They take pride in offering great service levels and aim to meet the needs of their customers with excellence at all times.
They will soon be expanding their footprint into East Africa. In this regard, we seek applications for a senior post of Country General Manager who will be be responsible and accountable to the Board of Directors for the establishment and overall management and performance of the business in Kenya.The role entails development of the local Company’s strategic plan, formulation and implementation of all company policies and procedures in areas of operations, human resources management, accounting and finance, supply chain, marketing etc.
In this start-up phase of the business, the GM will also be responsible for:
Formulation of an entry and expansion development plan for approval by the Board of Directors
The efficient handling of recruitment and employee relations issues
Building a culture that entrenches the company values
Developing strong and sustainable relationships with clients and service providers
Effectiveness, efficiency and profitability of the business
All matters relating to sales including: Actual sales and relationship management in all forms, inclusive of all capturing, processing and management of sales.
All sales channels including: In bound and Out bound telesales, e-commerce, retail, on consumption & off consumption.
All matters related to day to day management and operation of the business unit within the prescribed country, including: General Management, Operations Management, Sales & Marketing Management, HR Management at business unit level while supported / guided by head office departments and line managers.
Effective and efficient supply chain management will be essential to succeed
All matters related to trade marketing, merchandising, marketing, brand building, brand awareness and brand management within the country
Successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
A business related qualification e.g.in sales, marketing, operations, business management or supply chain management
Wine industry experience would be preferable but not essential if the individual has other competencies stated
Excellent communication, high impact presentation, negotiation and persuasion skills.
Highly administrative – able to implement general management policies and procedures in all aspects of business including financial, accounting, human resources
Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial with an intense desire to see the new business succeed and to dedicate the time required to ensure the business is operational and profitability
The ability to successfully execute multiple work streams at the same time whilst maintaining focus on the bigger picture
An outgoing and social person who understands Kenya’s social scene and willing to go the extra mile in marketing and brand building in various social functions
Prior experience in operations and supply chain management including importation of products
Must have a good understanding of the geographical layout and demographics in Kenya
Strong relationship building skills preferably with well-established business networks or relationships within relevant industries e.g. hospitality, supermarkets etc.
Demonstrable track record of high sales performance in a similar environment
Strong problem analysis, judgment and decision making skills to deal with issues that arise in a start-up phase of a business
A strategic thinker with ability to conceptualize plans, plan activities and deliver on planned targets/objectives.
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, ‘can do’ attitude – very goal orientated.
Willingness to travel extensively throughout the country and to South Africa.
