Program Officer Jobs At Diakonia In Kenya
Diakonia is a Swedish Faith based Development organization that works together with local partner organizations for sustainable change for the most vulnerable people in the world. Diakonia works for a just, equal and sustainable world to change political, economic,social and cultural structures that cause poverty, inequality oppression and violence. Diakonia’s work is organized in six thematic areas namely; Democracy, Human Rights, Gender Equality, Social Economic Justice, Conflict and Jusitice and Humanitarian work.
Diakonia is in the process of negotiating grant support from Sida to support the implementation of a Democracy and Human Rights Program in Kenya. The Program will be implemented in 19 counties and will for the time being be implemented by 12 civil Society partners with possibility of additional CSO partners in 2016 and 2017 and possibly in the future phases. The Program will be implemented for a period of 30 months in the initial phase with a possibility of an extended phase in the future.
The Democracy and Human Rights Program has two outcomes namely
Improved access to Justice through effective key institutions within the justice sector that respects human rights and the rule of law. In realizing this outcome, the program will work with the police, judiciary, prisons and the DPP. The partners will work with the right holders and the duty bearers in these institutions for improved access to Justice.
Effective advocacy carried out by media and other stakeholders in civil society at local and national level in order to strengthen democratic culture and strengthened accountability. The program will contribute to the 2017 General elections by deepening cohesion in the country and outreach to the Faith and political leaders. Stengthening citizen participation and duty bearer accountability in public finance managent and service delivery will also be critical aspects for realizing this outcome.
To support this, Diakonia wishes to recruit the following positions to join the Kenya Country Program team. The recruited staff will have an inital two year contract that is renewable if funding for future phases is secured.

Qualifications For Program Officer Jobs In Kenya
Bachelors degree in any social science field from a recognized university
5 years experience in program and project implementation. In particular, experience in working with police, judiciary and prison issues is essential for the position. Experience in working with Governance and
Democracy programs is also desirable.
Experience of technical support to local NGOs.
Ability to plan, conduct and review trainings, workshops, seminars.
Analysis and report writing skills;
Co-ordination Skills and Networking Skills;
Planning and organizing ability to be able to accomplish tasks, file and retrieve information.
Basic Financial skills; and Budgetary skills;
Strong ability to plan, organize, analyze and prepare reports and statements.
Strong the ability to communicate with and support partner organizations in various program issues.
Effective communication skills both oral and written English.
