MTN Business Managing Director Job in Nairobi, Kenya

We wish to identify: highly competent, proactive and self driven individual to fill the following position which is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
 

Managing Director
 

Reporting to the Board, the ideal candidate will be responsible for providing principled leadership consistent with the Business’s vision, mission and values. 

S/he is expected to provide exemplary leadership and ensure a high performing environment. 

In addition, the jobholder will lead and oversee the development and implementation of MTN’s overall strategy and ensure that activities and support services are aligned to the strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
 

Strategy

• Create Strategy to ensure a sustained economic value driven business


• Ensure the Enterprise Business Unit is led and managed to meet the business’ goals and strategies in alignment with MTN Group


• Position MTN strategically in the market place


• Manage the relationship between the Local stakeholders and MTN Group


• Build and lead the Enterprise Business Unit leadership team to develop a high performance culture that sustains effective business delivery

Finance

• Accountable for the profit and loss of the business


• Accountable for the meeting and exceeding of financial targets as set by The MTN Board


• Accountable for prudent financial controls for the organisation as a whole are in place


• Create and maintain relationships with key financial institutions


• Social accountable for MTN corporate social responsibility in the organisation


• Leverage economic systems to benefit non-customers


• Champion social upliftment programmes

Corporate Governance

• Accountable for ensuring rigorous Corporate Governance aligned to The MTN Group standard


• Accountable for Risk management in the organisation

Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Tasks:

• Create and lead the culture and values of MTN


• Provide exemplary leadership for the organisation as a whole


• Define the future and the long term vision and direction


• Provide context for the roles staff are required to fulfil


• Provide the external/public face for MTN Business Kenya including regular public speaking and attendance on a range of Boards


• Manage direct reports to achieve exemplary results


• Set direction and ensure the appropriate resources are allocated


• Ensure regular review and monitoring of performance


• Present annual reports to The Board


• Create long term viability with innovative use of technology and investments


• Identify opportunities for growth and innovation with appropriate and manageable risk


• Develop market share opportunities within the context of the MTN systems and prudent risk

Academic Qualifications

• Minimum of relevant academic degree coupled with an MBA/Masters


• Associated telecoms degree will be an added advantage

Professional Qualifications

• 10 years or more experience in a general management / leadership role; with at least 3 years in relevant sector / industry


• Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding of emerging markets


• Worked across diverse cultures and geographies


• Proven track record of a start-up, shut-down and/or business improvement project

Competencies

• Technical savvy


• Thorough knowledge of telecommunication industry


• Understanding of business drivers
